Bus Rules

Kelsey A. & Zach Y.

All first grade boys and girls, it is a longer bus ride to Arcadia than Onekama. You have to take a shuttle bus. You might get tired. Don't misbehave. Be good on the bus or you will get an assigned seat. Do not eat on the bus. You will get in trouble. You will not like it. If you throw food on the bus, you will have to clean the bus. Do not jump on the bus. You might hurt someone or yourself or you will not like it. You will have to stay home. Have a good bus ride!!!

Writers Workshop

Reid V. & Kaly S.

Writers' Workshop is when we write stories. We choose a story and write about it. We "have-a-go" after our stories are finished. We write down five words that we can't spell. We meet with the teacher. When we are done, she checks it for a plot and spelling. Then we go back and check it.

Lastly, we publish the story. We type them on the computer or Mrs. Furton does it for us.

Marble Jar Party

Amber J.

In our class we have a marble jar. If we come in after recess and go to our seats quietly, we earn marbles. We do not get marbles if we are loud. After our teacher puts the marbles in the jar everyone cheers. If we are good in music and art we get a few marbles. We have already had one party. We are going to have one more party today. Our teacher calls on the kids if they have a movie they want to watch. We vote on the movie that we want to see. We pick out the movie and if someone in our class has the it, they bring it in. Our teacher will bring the movie if no one has it. She always brings pop and chips. This time we picked the movie Flubber.

Hank was head of ranch security. He was supposed to take care of a ranch but he ran into trouble. One time he had to wear a chicken head around his neck, because Loper thought he killed a chicken. But it was really the coyotes. Another time he ate a bar of soap. Everyone thought he was foaming at the mouth. He was taken to the pound but got away with help from a friend. Hank was a very funny dog!

I am writing about a story we heard. It's called Hank the Cow Dog. It's about a dogs life. We heard it in our classroom. It's a funny book. Literature Circles

Courtney G. & Brett J.

We got to pick our own chapter book. After we get done reading some of our book, we have to do papers. One is called a Discussion Director. You have to find "fat" questions. It is a question that isnot in the book. The Passage Picker has to find a page and paragraph and tell why you like it. Connector is when you connect the story to your life. Word Finder finds words that are hard. After you finish the book you get to do a project. You can do a character description or make stick puppets.

Flipbooks and Character Pictures

Nick B. & Amber F.

This is how we do flipbooks. We read a story and then we cut four flaps on a piece of paper. We do plots with our flipbooks. This is how we do plots. Scholar Dollars

Chris S. & Taylor B.

We get scholar dollars for being good. You save them and you get more and more. We have an auction in a month. At the auction Mrs. Furton calls out how many scholar dollars. Then she says going, going, going, gone. We get a pencil for six or one scholar dollars. At the end of the auction we can save some scholar dollars so we can use them next time.

Spelling Stations

Anna G. & David E.

We do spelling stations. We do sorts on the overhead. You have to take two sets of words. One side is different from the other. Only you know what it is. The groups try to guess what it is. In paint bags you call a word on the spelling list. Then you spell it. The first one to get it right three times gets to call out the words. There is play-doh in spelling stations, too. In play-doh you say a word off the spelling list. You spell it with play-doh. You mold the letter out of the play-doh. In glue words you take a word out of the bag. Then you rub it with a crayon. Then you trace it with your finger, write it in a sentence, and write the word. In picture spelling you pick a word off of the spelling list. You make a picture out of the word and write around the picture. In magnets someone calls out a word and you try to be the first one to get it right.

There is a ladder made of wood. It has a slide too. On the lighthouse there are two wheels. There's wood chips around it. The hockey court is fun and so is the basketball.
