The Sound of Music

Curtiss O. S. & Mandy G.

Onekama's spring play will be The Sound of Music. There are five Fourth Graders trying out for the play. Mandy is going to try out for one of the little girls. Curtiss wants to try out for the youngest boy, Kurt. Mandy and Curtiss both have parts to sing alone.

The Voyageurs

Tyler M.& Darrel H.

The Voyageurs were French fur traders. They canoed around the Great Lakes. They carried mainly beaver furs. Their boss was John Jacob Astor. You can see Voyageurs on the web.

Fourth Grade Basketball

John Y.& Ryan B.

This is the first time we have played on a basketball team. We will play at half time of the JV and Varsity home basketball games. Our coach is Ryan Brown's dad. We have practice on Saturday from 3:00 to 4:15. There are ten kids on the team.

Sliding

Jeremy L.

Sledding is fun especially when it is icy. My friends and I built a jump. When we go on it, we go so high that sometimes we fall off. It is hard walking up the hill because it is so icy. I go sliding on the school hill.

Fourth Grade News and Views

Skiing

Chris P.& Joel S.

Skiing is fun. There are free ski lessons at Crystal Mountain Thursday night for Ski Club. They have cross country and downhill skiing and snowboarding. People can rent equipment there, too. At the ski resort, there are restaurants and rooms to stay. Skiing is life, the rest is just details!

Puppet

Andrea K. & Emily E.

The Fourth Grade is going to put on a puppet show for the Kindergarten and DK classes. We are making puppets with Mrs. Chris. The puppets are blue, green, and red. They are made out of small cereal boxes and sprayed with paint. Then we decorated them so they look like real puppets. We spilt up into groups of four. Each group has to make up a skit with characters.

MEAP Test

Katie R. & Nichole B.

MEAP stands for Michigan Educational Assessment Program. All students in Michigan must take this test in 4, 5, 7, and 8 grades. It tests for reading, math, science, and writing skills. We have to fill in ovals with a No. 2 pencil to mark our answers. A computer checks the tests after we're through. We take a test every morning for 1 1/2 hours. We have to do our best work and we can't get out of our seats. We should go to bed early and eat good all week long. Our MEAP scores are kept in our personal student files until we graduate.

Skiing

Kayla B.& Jessica K.

Skiing is lots of fun! On Thursday night Ski Club goes to Crystal Mt.

There are instructors who take the young kids on the hill. The instructors help the kids improve their skiing. Kayla's mom, Pam Bates works at Crystal Mt. This is Jessica's first year going with Ski Club.

Experiment

Kris H.& Dustin B.

Our experiment was about water evaporation. We put water in three containers. We had one jar covered, one uncovered, and a bowl uncovered. After four days, we measured how much water was left in the containers. There were different amounts of water in each container. The bowl had the least amount of water. Why?

Sledding

Kelsey V. & Danielle O.

Once in a while Mrs. Brown takes us outside to go sledding. It's really fun because when you get up speed there are three bumps. The first one is deep and the rest are high and steep. Sometimes we have to double up because there are not enough sleds. We go sledding on the hill in the front of the school.
