The best thing was we didn't have to buy ice cream. Mrs. Eldridge and Mr. Finan bought it. When they got on the bus we all screamed, "Thank you!" ...Nichole L

Hurry! We had to hurry and read 15 books. Some were boring and some were exciting, but we read them all. All of us read for four months, not just reading, but practicing for competition and doing tons of things. We did lots of really cool things like crossword puzzles, skits and all sorts of things. ....Sarah A.

Hi, my name is Dustin. I was on a Book Bowl team. We had to read 15 books as a team. I only read eight. When I was in competition, I was nervous, but after the first game I wasn't because we won. Then we played our second game and won again. We were on a roll. Then in game three we played the hardest team and lost. Then we lost our next game and we were out of competition. ...Dustin

I liked Book Bowl because you got to do skits on the books you read. I got to do a skit with Dustin, Mary, Jade and Sam. It took us a while to get it together, but it worked out. Dustin and I were in chairs and it looked like we were flying. Mrs. Eldridge taped it and on TV it was pretty good. ...Josh K.

We got to make a commercial for a Book Bowl Book. Ashley, Andrea and I made one on Julie of the Wolves. I had to sing and dance and Andrea and Ashley danced. We had to do it in front of the whole fifth grade. We had a lot of fun. We felt like stars. ...Kayla F

Competing was lots of fun even though we lost. Our first three competitions we won. In the first competition we were very nervous and excited but the questions were simple and we answered everything correctly. The other team played extremely well, but on the fourth round of our tie, they got a question wrong and it rebounded to us. We won by 8. The rest we won by a lot. We got fourth or fifth place. ....Eleanor

We did the skit Number the Stars. We practiced a lot. When we heard "First Place for best Play from Onekama" all of us were amazed. We were so happy we won first place! We all got a certificate that said, "Manistee County Book Bowl 1998 Video Entry Number the Stars Video Crew first place". We were all proud of each other. ...Ashley B.

I liked doing skits because we got to act out a part of the book. It was really fun too. Plus we got to be with our friends. Skits also let other people that hadn't read the book yet, or someone that doesn't understand it, see what is going on in that part of the book. ...Chris S.

I loved doing our skit. It took place in the night. Mama tells the girls good night. Mama and Papa are taking care of Ellen, a Jewish girl, so she doesn't get taken away by the Nazi. In the skit, there was a loud knock on the door. It was the Nazis. Mama gets hysterical and Papa gets frantic. But it all went well. We even got "Best Skit Award". ...Erica J

I learned a lot of things from Book Bowl. I learned the books and questions. I learned that we can read if we really try. ...Erica S.

For our Book Bowl Skit, we did The Not-Just-Anybody Family. We went to the recycle trailer and got two big cardboard boxes. The biggest box was Pap's truck. The other box was the Toyota. I had to wear a hard paper collar because I was Mud. We used pop bottles to throw out of the truck. I had a lot of fun doing the skit. ...Soren K.

We made skits for our Book Bowl competition. We did a lot of work like making props and we did a lot of deciding and organizing. ....Ricky

Groups of students performed skits about the Book Bowl Books. Lots of fun to practice and watch!
