I learned from Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins that when they where kids they couldn't afford T.V. They also had less things then we do now. Like for egsample they had to have a piece of wood and a string instead of a real fishing pole. Back then things were a lot cheeper then now like gass prices were only 40 cents a gallon. ....Kayleigh

When we had the NetGap program, Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins came in. They showed us a music radio, a kindergarden reader book , and old doll and a fifth grade reader book. The books were really old ,but were in good shape. I learned that behind our school there use to be an outdoor movie theater . I also learned that gas was 20 cents a gallon. They taught us how life was back then.. They said they didn't have that much electricity. Mrs. Hopkins said that she had a school bus where she lived, but Mr. Hopkins walked. He said he walked two miles through a swamp. I had a lot of fun lisening to what they had to say. I think we all had fun. ...Lucie

I learned that a very long time ago people had little tubes that were like record players, but you needed to crank them. There was a big top which made it the size of a Doctor's suitcase. They also had a lot of cheap things for low money. Did you know cars costed 500 dollars? That was werth a lot just for a modle T. I think it was cool having Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins tell and show history. ...Donny

For school they got disiplined for talking in class like getting slapped on the knuckles. When people got into mischive back then it wasn't very easy disiplin. It was very rough. ...Kayleigh

It would hurt to get hit by a ruler if I did something wrong in school I would not like to have nothing to do but work back then. I'm sure glad I wasn't born in those kind of years. The only good thing was getting to hear about it. I wonder if my grandpa got spanked by a teacher? .... Jake

What I learned from the NetGap yesterday was instead of snowboards and skateboards they put a seat on a ski and road it down a hill. What was really weird was that a gallon of gas was 20 cents. I can't believe that. ...Jake

Mrs. Hopkins also showed us some Kindergarden and 5th grade readers from when whe was in school. They told us that when they moved to Arcadia there wasn't much electricity and the roads were dirt. Mr. Hopkins grew up in Arcadia and walked to school. Mrs. Hopkins road a bus because her mom was a teacher. MR HOPKINS & MRS. HOPKINS are awsome people. ...Erin

I learned that back then you didn't have radio or television. Most girls had to wear dresses and boys wore slacks (jeans). Mrs. Hopkins showed us an old, old, old doll that was 100 years old, she said. Mr. Hopkins showed us an old radio thing . He wound it up and it played scratchy but funny music. Derek looked scared when he heard the music. ...Erin
