A Spooky Musical Play for Halloween

In fourth grade music, students acted out the Spanish-American folk legend, La Llorona, The Weeping Woman.

Some students created eerie sound effects on percussion instruments in our "pit orchestra", while other students acted out each character in the story.

I was Maria in the play. Gus way my boyfriend. My grandma told me not to date him , but I did. We had two boys. There dad always tould me he didn't come to see me. He came to see are sons. I got very mad at him . So when he left, I took are two sons and threw them in the water. I Then I realist what I did. So I trid to get them Then I fell on arock and cut my head open. I dide. Last week in Miss Eichberger's class we did a play. Me and Karl were sound effects guys . When LaLaRona walked up to the two boys we rubbed sand blocks together and made screachey noises. We used symbols to make noises also. We did this two times for about two minutes. ... Kevin

In the play I was LaLaRona's kid. First Maria said, "I'm going to marry the most handsome man in all of New Mexico." Her grandmother just shook her head. Maria got her wish. she married a guy named Gagorieo. Gagorieo was at work everyday. But when Gagorieo returned he only wanted to see his kids. Then Maria got jelus of her own kids. Then she grabed them by the shoulder. S=Next she dragged them to the river bank and throwed them in the river. Then she ran as fast as she could and struck her head on a rock. My favret part about the play was LaLaRona grabd the two brave kids. You should have seen ther face. My part was the orkestra. It was very funny wen Ratlen was the witch. I was the grandmother of Maria. People said she was the prettiest in New Mexico. When she married the guy she liked she was not happy. Then when she saw him with another lady go by in a carriage, she grabbedhe r children by the arm and threw them in the river. Then the church bells rang and she ran and tripped, and fron that night on LaLarona walks on the river bank looking for her children. ...Noelle

In Miss Eichberger's class we did a play with music. She told us that we would do the play. We all decided what we wer to be. The play was about La'laRona the whiping Woman. She was a very pretty girl. She marries Gagario. He is very handsom. In the play there are musicians. As the story goes on they hav kids. The husband leaves the family to go back to his old ways. He might go gambling or see other women. One day Garario comes back home with an other woman. She is verry pritty. The husband said, I did not come to see you, I have come to see my kids. His wife got mad. She took her kids and threw them in the river. She ran after them to get them cause she regreated it. But she fell down and hit her head on a stone and died. They say you can her her voice saying "Where are my children?" ...Elizabeth

The play took us about 30 minutes. I was the person who made the noise of the church bell. After Mrs. Eichberger took pictures of everybody in some part of the play. ...Christian

La Llorana is the legend of a young woman named Maria who becomes jealous of her two children. Her husband Gregorio has neglected Maria and only pays attention to their children. One day Maria becomes so enraged with anger and jealousy, she takes her two children and throws them into the river. After realizing what she's done, she runs along the river bank, trying in vain to retrieve the children, but they are gone. As she is running, she trips on a root, hits her forehead against a rock and is killed. Her ghost haunts the river bank near Santa Fe, and the people in town begin to hear stories that her ghost is looking for her children.The story ends with one boy who narrowly escapes being caught by La Llorona. ..Miss E.
