Yesterday Helen Johnson came in to
the eighth grade science class with a bag of pig hearts.
She told us that pig hearts are very similar to human
hearts and are sometimes used to repair or replace a
human heart. She brought out the four pig hearts ad put
them onto four different tables. She then had twelve
students come up and put on hospital surgery gowns. She
directed them to then tables and gave each table a
scalpel. The students then dissected the hearts into
pieces and tried to identify each part of the heart. I
didn't participate in the cutting because I wasn't
feeling very good and it made me sick. We had a lot of
fun in science class on January 3rd, 2013. ~ Tighe

On Thursday we dissected pig hearts. It
was very fun! even though i was very nervous, since it
was very new! it was very fun experience and i hope we
do this again. I thank Mrs. Johnson very much for
letting us do this! She even told us some stories about
working at the hospital. I give thanks to the people who
set it up. ~Tanner Hearit
On January 3, 2013 we had a special guest
come in to help us with an experiment. We got to dissect
a pig heart. It was very fun. I used one of the hearts
as a finger puppet. I wish we could do this every day.

The pig heart dissection was so fun, it
was a very good break from the book work! I think its
safe to say that the entire class had a blast! It really
was the most fun I have had In a while in science class
(sorry Mr. Neph). My favorite part of the dissection was
the valves on top. It was very interesting to see how
the left side developed as a muscle and how the right
side wasn't very muscly. Why that is, is because the
right side doesn't have very far to pump but the left
side has to pump from the toes to the head. When I
started pulling out the blood clots Mercedes started to
gag, soon after she quit. After tanner chopped up most
of the heart I picked it up and plopped it on table then
Kassie joined us. It was very fun! Thank you Mr. Neph ~

So Mrs. Johnson brought in 4 pigs
hearts! We got split up into 4 groups for 4 hearts. My
group was Matt, Me, Coco, and Grace. So we got our
smocks on and our purple gloves(:. She gave every group
a heart. When i got my heart it was still a little
frozen. She said we couldnt cut it open yet but we cud
touch it and look at it. So we did. Then the fun part
came. We finally got to cut it open and dissect it. I
almost made Matt throw up:O ha he turned pale n green!
..so i cut it open and looked at all the vessels and
vains n meat inside the heart. I kinda started to get a
little hungry!:p hah. There was nasty blood clots in it!
but it was still squishy and fun..i think it wudve been
way more better if they had a lot of blood ha im kinda
a physco!(; anywho it was fun and it was raining pig
hearts halilujah it was raining pig hearts!:) hahahaha

Yesterday was January 3 and we
dissected pig hearts. My mom came in to help us dissect
them. To dissect the pig hearts we had to wear gloves
and gowns. The room smelled like beef jerky and raw meat
from the hearts. In our pig heart we found big blood
clots. We used scalpels to cut the hearts. A pig heart
is the closest thing to a human heart. We had a lot of
fun dissecting the hearts, you could not even tell it
was a heart we cut it up so much. It was really cool
dissecting pig hearts. I hope we can do something like
this again. ~Lauryn Johnson |
