With another huge win
(56-14) over the Baldwin Panthers, the young Portagers are now 3-0 and
lead the conference with three games to go. Behind some great blocking
from the front line made up of Joe Eno, Josh Jacobs, Austin Greiner,
Marcus Lovell, Josh Santa, Brandon Bohannon, Keifer Brewer and lead
blocker Logan Fogarty the Portagers controlled the line of scrimmage.
With the help of that blocking and some great running by Quinn Matthews,
Matthews set a new Middle School record for rushing with 228 yds on 9
carries as well as record 7 TD's, including a 35yd punt return for a TD.
Matthews was also on the receiving end of a 35yd pass from Bryce Reckow
that lead to another TD. |
Jacob Florian added to the
score with an additional TD along with a 2pt conversion and rushed for
69 yds on 4 carries. Reckow also completed a 2t conversion pass to
Brewer and added another on a QB keeper, Greiner also was successful on
his conversion attempt.
Defensively the Portagers were just as tenacious, with five
sacks and numerous gang tackles, they kept the Panthers on the run and
unsure how to move the ball. At his LB spot, Florian once again led the
attack with 10 tackles, with Jacobs, Santa and Lovell also adding 6
tackles each, followed by Matthews, Eno and Fogarty with 5 apiece.
Jacobs also recovered a Panther fumble that lead to one of the 8 TD's
posted on the scoreboard. ~Coach Matthews |
