9/12/07 | At Brethren 6:00 | The Middle School football team starting the season out with a tough loss (14-30) to a smaller, but fired up Brethren team. We committed a total of 7 turnovers, and three of those turnovers were converted into TD's for the opposing team. The only two scores for Onekama came from a 33 yard punt return by Adrian Norman in the 1st Qtr and a break away run by Tyler Fogarty of 34 yards in the 2nd Qtr. Norman lead the rushing attack with 14 carries for 92 yds, while Fogarty, Quinn Matthews and Kevin Wethy added 10/68yds, 7/22yds and 5/13yds respectfully. Defensively, Norman and Brandon Guerra lead in tackle's with five apiece, followed by Jacob Florian and Tanner Kott with three each. ~Coach Matthews

10/10/07 | At Manistee Catholic 6:00 | Portagers 24 - Sabers 8. The Portagers came out quickly and behind a strong offense line they took total control of the pace of the game. QB Adrian Norman and RB's, Quinn Matthews and Scott Wethy all ran in for a TD apiece along with successful conversions. Even before the halftime buzzer rang, it was evident that the team was on their way to another big win! At that point, Coach Wethy elected to change things up a bit and with a new fresh offense line and backfield made up of Jacob Florian and Nick Streeter saddled up behind QB Bryce Reckow, the team continued to control the game and continued to pile up additional yardage. Defensively, the young Portagers were just as impressive, with Tyler Fogarty once again leading the attack with 18 solo tackles. ~Coach Matthews

10/23/07 | At Lake City 4:00 | The young Portagers
end the season with a tough loss to a much bigger and stronger
(non-league) Lake City team. The team put up a great battle, but the
Gladiators broke though for three long runs for TD's and capitalized on
a Portager turnover to add one more in the red zone. The Portagers
refused to give up and pulled with 4 and with seconds ticking away the
Gladiator's successfully recovered the onside kick attempt and took a
knee to run the clock out. Tyler Fogarty and Adrian Norman each scored in the game, with Scott Wethy and Nick Streeter adding the conversions. Streeter also scored late in the 4th Qtr on a 60+ yard run and he was successful on the 2pt conversion. The Onekama/Bear Lake Portagers finish the season with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. |
