Our school board recently decided that our school needed to have some updates. The  thing that’s needed the most is a new gym. We currently have one gym for our entire K-12 school. Along with a new gym, we will be getting a new cafetorium (cafeteria/auditorium), full service kitchen, stage, band room, art room, a new preschool and they’re changing a few classrooms. Our new gymnasium will be able to seat 1000 people and will include a walking track, fitness room, and locker rooms.

I think that this change will be very positive for our school and will create a better and more pleasant learning environment.

Right now, our Middle School is allowed only 3 minutes to go to our lockers, exchange our books for different classes, and get to our next class on time. I think that our Middle School deserves to have more passing time between classes.

In Elementary school, we had recesses and about 5 minutes to hang out in between classes. Now we have 3 minutes to get from our class to our lockers to exchange our books and get to our next class on time. If you’re late to any one class 2 times, you get an RTC. I really don’t understand that because if someone is held up because they can’t get their locker open or really have to get a drink, they’ll be the RTC room’s next occupant.

We are also deprived of recess in middle school. As a result, we are not getting outside for even a minute of the 8 hours that we spend at school each day. Now, our only free time is seminar and the time before lunch but during both of those times we aren’t allowed outside.

I think that the Middle School deserves 5 minutes in between classes to get books, go to the bathroom, get a drink, or just stretch our legs.

More Passing Time Between Classes

Band

At the end of 5th grade, our whole class had a choice to take either electives (shop, mini society, study skills, and computers) or band. If you take electives, you rotate between them but if you take band, you’ll have it for a whole year.

The teacher for band is Mrs. Graham. She teaches the 5th grade

band, the middle school band, and the high school band. Band class doesn’t really start until 10 minutes after the bell rings, so there’s really no way to be tardy, and during those 10 minutes you just practice or talk, even though you aren’t supposed to. The sixth graders in band are; Emily Hippinsteel, Natasha

Vasquez, Lauren Merriman, Daniel Kinn, Mitchell Clarke, Sierra Warner, Claire Harvey(me), Alex Barto, Courtney Danks, Samantha Briggs, John Michael Schoedel, and David Swanson. There are also 7th and 8th graders in the band.

I think that Band is really fun and hope to be in it next year.
