5th and 6th Grade Portagers Defeat Manistee Catholic Central team 32-0 |

After a slow start in the 1st half,
the young Portagers stepped up in the 2nd half and scored four more
times and shut out the Manistee Catholic Central team 32-0. Jacob
Morales and Quinn Matthews once again led the scoring attack with 2 TD's
each and Brice Reckow who led the team at the QB spot the entire game
added another TD on a QB keeper. All of scoring couldn't have happed
without the blocking that took place (especially in the 2nd half). At
the center spot, John Curtin took car of snapping duties and along with
the seasoned line of Brandon Bohannon, Josh Santa, Cody Brown, Bryson
Waller, Josh Jacobs, Mike Ennis and Logan Fogarty at Flanker, they
provided the backfield with the blocking needed to get into the end
zone. The real shining stars of the game though was the entire defense team, they once again put on a strong showing by only allowing four first downs and picking off two MCC passes for their second shut out of the season. Shane Peterson ended the final scoring threat from MCC by picking off their last pass attempt in the red zone as the time clock ran out and Matthews also picked one off in the 1st half. Newcomer to the front line, Austin Griener put a show by getting into the MCC backfield numerous times for tackles.
