Onekama Upsets Manistee Blue

The young Portagers post another big win as they defeat tough Manistee Gold team 24-0 for their fifth straight win and fourth shut out of the season. Manistee's defense held their ground throughout the first half and caused numerous problems for the Onekama offense, holding us scoreless. Luckily our defense did the same thing to Manistee and we went to locker room 0-0 at half time. The second half was a different story, the team final got in the game and showed the diehard fans the kind of football they have come to expect from them... come rain or shine, more of the later lately. Their first score came off a 31yd TD run by Jacob Morales and Quinn Matthews added the 2pt conversion to make it 8-0.

After a key interception by Brandon Beckstein later in the 3rd QTR, the offense took over again and walked down the field as Matthews took the quick pitch from QB Bryce Reckow and darted in for another TD and conversion to make it 18-0 as the QTR ended. A second pick (interception) by Michael Ennis in the 4th QTR s  lowed any momentum that Manistee may have hoped for and Onekama took over again and with time running out Morales broke a big one and ran 78yds for the final score and conversion to end the game 24-0.

The Manistee Gold team will be looking for revenge when we face them again this Saturday (October 14th) on the Manistee Catholic Central Field at 12:00 noon. Please note the change in field and starting time!
