Mrs. Hagen gets to know Piggy

Onekama Students Write About Relay for Life.

Principal Hagen is a great sport when it comes to supporting Relay for Life!

The horse was willing, but Mrs. Hagen was shy at first.

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
During the Relay for Life we raised a total of $1000 dollars to give to the American Cancer Society. The very first day we raised 53.72 it was fun. I ran 10 miles in the gym I also had a hat every day. There were these pictures that we could buy from Miss Turk for a dollar then you could color them in. Then we could also buy a balloon for 5 dollars then you could right someone’s name on it, the teachers also put them around the gym to make the track. It was a fun week and I want to do it again next year.

Sincerely, Michael Ennis

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
Last week we raised more than 1,000 dollars with all the money together. We had bake sales, hat day, memory balloons, Relay tags. The main goal was $350 but we got more than a thousand dollars. We needed at least $350 because then Mrs. Hagan kissed a pig. Since we raised more than that she also kissed a horse. When we were walking around the gym I walk around 5 miles. We had a blast in the gym. We were taking each others hat and ran with them. Sincerely,
John Curtin

Miss Turk thanks the student body for raising money to fight cancer.

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

In Relay for life week we raised over 1,000 dollars! We had a lot of fun walking in the gym. Some people walked 7 miles! On Relay for life week you could buy balloons for people who died of cancer or people who survived cancer or you could just buy them in memory of someone. There were so many people that walked in the gym. Every one of the kids from school walked. You could buy tags to put you’re name on them to hang up in the hallway. If you brought in 50 cents you could wear a hat. Our first goal was to raise $350 and if we raised that much Mrs. Hagan would have to kiss a pig! The first day we raised $53.72. On the 2nd day we raised $412.91. The 3rd day we raised 238 dollars. The forth day we raised 131.39 dollars. The 5th day we raised 89.56 dollars. During the bake sale we raised $78. Altogether we raised $1,005. After the second day Mrs. Hagan already had to kiss a pig so we made a second goal and it was if we raised $800 she would have to kiss a second animal. We rose over $800 so she had to kiss a pig and a horse. It was a lot of fun.

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

This past week we had Relay for Life at our school. One Wednesday we walked in most of our classes all day long. I walked about 6 or 7 miles all day. The goal was to raise 350 dollars. We had a hat day all that week, and we had people that donated money to the school. The deal was if the school raised over 350 dollars, Mrs. Hagen had to kiss a pig. The school kept raising money and we earned 1,005 dollars. It was so funny when we got to see Mrs. Hagen kiss a pig. Then she had to kiss a horse to because if we raised over 800 dollars she had to kiss a pony. The Relay for life was a good idea because we got out of class, had fun, and got to see Mrs. Hagen kiss a pig and a Horse. This was a big deal for the school because we could feel proud of ourselves because we gave all this money to the people with Cancer.

Sincerely,
Bryce Reckow

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

On Relay for life week we were raising money for cancer. We raised a lot of money. On Wednesday we all walked during classes, I got almost ten miles. Also we could buy things like balloons for the memory of someone you knew that died of cancer. Or you could buy a relay tag. The whole school was doing this. There were so many people who walked on Wednesday. If you brought in 50 cents you could have worn a hat. Our first goal was to raise $350 when we reached that we had to try to get $800. We raised all the money we needed. On the first day we raised $53.72 on the second day we raised $412.91, on the third day we raised $238.24, on the fourth day we raised $131.39, on the last day we raised $89.56. By the second day Mrs. Hagan already had to kiss a pig. A bake sale was going on Friday and we raised $78 there. On Monday Mrs. Hagan kissed a pig and a mini horse.

Sincerely,

Austin Greiner

Shhh! Don't scare the horse.

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
The middle school walked for the Relay of Life. I walked 3 miles all together. Everyone walked at least 18 miles. We earned $419.00 on Tuesday. On Wednesday we earned $800.00. All together we raised about $1005.00. Mrs. Hagen agreed to kiss a pig the first 400.00 we raised. Then she agreed to kiss a horse if we raised 800.00. The assembly was yesterday. It was funny to see her kiss a pig in front of everyone on the school.
Sincerely, Chris Gale

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
The Relay for Life was a very fun event. It was very fun and cured people of cancer. I think our school did a very good job at RELEY FOR LIFE. We had walked so many miles for the cure of cancer and people paying bills for cancer. The school had walked at least one mile or one class period per student. We also could have purchased a tag that you hang on the walls in memory of some one who has or had cancer. Or we could have purchased a balloon. What you do with the balloon is you write some ones name on the balloon in memory of some one that had cancer. We raised 1,005 dollars for the whole week. We also got to wear hats all week for 50 cents. The balloons were 5 dollars and the tags were 1 dollar. We also got to see Mrs. Hagan kiss and pig because we set the goal of 350 dollar one the second day. But we never stopped raising money. We raised even more money. So 2 days later we raised 850 dollars. That meant she had to kiss another animal. So the student council decided for her to kiss a miniature horse. That was probably one of the coolest thing.
Sincerely, Sierra Hull

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
Relay for life week was a lot of fun. Our school raised $1,005 for the fight against cancer. On Monday (May 21, 2007) Mrs. Hagen had to kiss a pig and a horse. It was pretty funny. On Wednesday (May 16, 2007) we walked around the gym. I walked 7 miles that whole day. It feels so good to know that our school raised that much money to the fight against Cancer. The things we did to raise money was Hats, Memory Balloons, and Relay tags. The First hour classes that won popsicles were Mrs. Warman's class, Mrs. Schultz's class, and Mr. Lamm's class. This is what Relay for Life week was like.
Sincerely, Derek Hobart

The entire student body came to watch Mrs. Hagen kiss a pig and a horse.

Thank You Ms Turk for inspiring us to do our best!

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

I liked the idea of doing the relay for life.  The best part about it is that we got to walk around the gym one day.  A lot of people think that we have a problem in Michigan with people who are fat, well that one day people walked up to seven miles (which can really make a difference).  So people will raise more money we gave a little prize (popsicles) to the elementary class, middle school class, and high school class that raised the most money.  The winners were Ms. Schultz (Elementary), Mrs. Warmen (Middle School), and Mr. Lamm (High School). We made: Monday_$53.72, Tuesday_$412.91, Wenedsday_ $238.24, Thursday_$131.39, Friday_$89.56, Bake Sale_$78.  All together we made $1,005.  For $350 Mrs. Hagan kissed a pig and for $800 Mrs. Hagen kissed a horse.  I loved what we did and I hope to be on student council again next year to do this!

Sincerly,
Amber Sullivan

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

Relay for Life is a cancer program, where you walk for the people who have had cancer. We sold memory baloons, which are for people who want to have a balloon in memory of them. We also sold Relay Tags, which are papers that were like the memory balloons, in memory of people. Then for 50 cents you could wear a hat for the day. We raised $1000, all in five days. On the first day we raised $53.72. On the second day we raised $412.91!!! THen everything went down hill there, on the third day we raised $238.24, fourth day: $131.39, and fifth day: $89.56. The elementary class that won was Ms. Schultz class. Out of the Middle School Mrs. Warman's class got the most money, and out of the high schoolers Mr. Lamm's class won.

Dear Mrs.Eldridg,

The relay for life week went really good! The first day we didn't raise that much,   Then the 2nd day we raised a little over $400.00, and after that people were donateing 20 dollar bills. It went really well for the rest of the week. I though Mrs. Hagen kissing the pig, and pony was the best part, also just knowing that all that money is going to cancer people, well that's a really good feeling. In the end I we raised a little over $1,000.00, Mrs. Ramsey said for a school this size that amount of money is pretty good. Now I just hope we can raise at least 1,000 next year, and hopefully a lot more!

Sincerely,
Katie Johnson

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

The relay for life was a good cause, and it was fun to do. It is good cause, because all the money made will go to help with cancer. A lot of people helped by bringing their hats to wear for the day for fifty cents. Another thing was the people bringing in donations of money. Last that helped was the people who walked around the gym to raise money. It was fun, because we got to talk, and walk around in the gym for a couple of hours. Everyone I the school helped out to raise money for the fight against cancer. Everything everyone did went to a good cause.

Sincerely,

Chance Johnson

Dear Mrs, Eldridge, the relay for life week was really fun. It gave you a chance to show that you care about the ones you love. Or the ones you lost from cancer. It was a really good idea if we raised more then 350 dollars that Mrs. Hagan would have to kiss a pig i mean that was funny sorry Mrs. Hagan. And we raised over one thousand dollars and that is why i thought it was a cool idea.
Austin Barnett

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

We raised at least 1,005 dollars to go to the relay for life. Ms. Schultz, Mrs. Warman, and Mr. Lamm won the popsicles for raising the most money. We raised money by selling memory balloons. That is where people would pay to get something written on a balloon. People also sold relay tags to raise money too. The students brought in 50 cents to wear a hat for each day. Then most people walked at least seven miles for the relay. We put a lot of effort in for this, mostly to reach our goal. We reached our first goal to 350 dollars for Mrs. Hagen to kiss a pig. Then we raised more then 800 dollars for her to also kiss a pony. This was a really good cause and a awesome time.

Sincerely,
Gabriella Bellinger

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

Last week we did Relay for Life. It was really fun we got to wear hats everyday for 50 cents. Also you could buy a paper that says you support Relay for Life for $1 or a balloon to put in the gym for $5. Also we got to walk for Relay for Life. There were balloons around the gym.  My class got the top score it was really fun to wear hats all day. If we raised $350 the principal would kiss a pig. If we raised $800 she would kiss a mini horse. So she had to kiss a pig and a mini horse and almost everyone got to watch her do it in the gym also all of the teachers watched to. I got to wear a hat last week to. It was a really good week I had lost of fun and I possibly helped some people. Overall it was a great week, we got to watch the principal kiss a pig and a mini horse, we got to wear a hat each day we had a bake sale and we got out of classes to walk around the gym.

Sincerely,
Austin Olson

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

I really thought the Relay for Life was a good idea and it was fun. It was a good idea to have a hat day because a lot of people like to wear hats and the balloons and relay tags were cool to because for the little kids they are having a good time coloring and it is for a good cause. When we had to walk in the around the gym for Relay for Life I walked about 6 or 7 miles and I think some other kids even walked farther than that. The winner for elementary was Ms. Schultz’s class with. The winner for the middle school was Mrs. Warman’s class and the winner for the high school was Mr. Lamm’s class.

The first day for Relay for Life the school only raised $53.72 and then the next day we raised $412.91. The next two days of the week the school raised $238.24 then $131.39. Then on the last day we raised 89.56. Our first goal was to raise 350 dollars and the second goal was 800 dollars, but the school raised a total of 1005 dollars. On Monday was the day that Mrs. Hagen had to kiss to animals. The first animal was a pig and the second one was a horse.

Sincerely,

Quinn

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

This last week we had a Relay for Life program going on for the victims with cancer. We had a goal of $350.00. The first day on Monday we only raised $53.72. We were not off to a good start. The next day on Tuesday we rose $412.91. That helped us a lot. Then we set a goal of $800.00. On Wednesday we rose $238.24. That got us up good. On Wednesday we also walked a lot. Their were balloons attached to the floor in memory of the victims. Then on Thursday we rose $131.39. Then on Friday we rose $89.56. so we beat the goal of $800. The bet was if we raised $350 we would get to see Mrs. Hagen kiss a pig. But we raised $800+. So now she had to kiss 2 animals. So she kissed a pig and a horse. Then at the back sale we raised $78.00. So the end result of the money was $1,005. We beat our first goal by a long shot.

Sincerely,
Brandon

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

Last week I did Relay for Life. I got to bring in $0.50 to wear a hat. You could also bring in $5 for a balloon. You could put someone’s name on it to remember them. You could also bring in $1 to write your name and decorate a poster. Last week we ran laps around the gym. We ran most of the hours. I ran Almost 7 miles. On the last day of the Relay for Life we did a bake sale. We raised $78 in the bake sale. All of the things added up to $1,005. The school donated it all to the American Cancer Society. Yesterday we got to see Mrs. Hagan Kiss some animals. If we raised $350 for the American Cancer Society she would kiss pig. If we raised $800 for the American Cancer Society she would kiss two animals. We raised $1,005 for the American Cancer Society so she kissed a pig and a horse. I was not here yesterday so I did not get to see her kiss the animals.

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
Last week was Relay for Life week. The event was put on by the Onekama Middle School Student Council. During the week, you could wear a hat for fifty cents, you could buy relay tags for a dollar, or you could just donate money. Those you could do every day of the week. Also, on Monday and Tuesday, you could buy memory balloons for five dollars. The balloons were taped to the gym floor to make a track to walk around on Wednesday. On Wednesday, everyone walked. I walked with Kaylan. We walked in five out of seven hours. In that amount of time, we walked 154 laps, which equals seven miles! After that, when I went home, I fell asleep for four hours, then got up and ate dinner. Then I went back to bed for another three hours! After that, I got back up and did my homework. I was not tired at all the next day! We made a deal with Mrs. Hagen that if we raised $350, she would kiss a pig, and if we raised $800, she would kiss another animal (which was originally a secret, but now we know that the surprise animal was a horse). We ended up raising $1005! Also, the class in the elementary and the first hour classes in the middle and high school who raised the most money would get popsicles! My first hour, Mrs. Warman's math, won! All the money we raised went to the American Cancer Society. Last week was a lot of fun and it was good to know that the money raised went to a good cause.

Sincerely,
Emily Barnard

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
Last week, May 14 was Relay for Life. Over all we raised $1,005. You could buy balloons for five dollars, relay tags for one dollar, and pay fifty cents to wear a hat. On the first day we raised only fifty three dollars and seventy two cents. The next day we raised $412.91. On the third day we raised $238.24. Then on the fourth day we raised $131.39. The next day, our last day we raised $89.56.
At the end of the week for K-5, Ms. Schultz's class won the Popsicles. For 6-8th grade, Mrs. Warman's class won the Popsicles. Last but not least 9-12, Mr. Lamm's class won the Popsicles.
Then the best part Mrs. Hagen had to kiss a pig. We had to raise $350 by the end of the week. We raised $350 on the second day. Me, Kelly, Elizabeth, and Kaylan went to go get the pig for Mrs. Hagen to kiss. We were going to get four pigs but we could only fit one pig in the crate. Then Mrs. Hagen had to kiss another animal once we raised $800. That animal was a horse. It was a miniature horse.
Mrs. Hagen was a good sport she was not scared to kiss my pig and  someone else’s horse. She was talking to the horse and pig before the assembly. I thought that the Assembly was fun because my pig was here. Sincerely,
 Emily Bergren

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,
On May 21, 2007 Mrs. Hagen had to kiss a pig because we earned a lot of money. She also had to kiss a horse. I can’t tell you about the memory balloons, relay tags, and the hat thing but I wished it would have waited another week so I could be apart of it. I do not wish I was here last week because I was on vacation and don’t regret going, but I wished it could have waited until this week. About the Mrs. Hagen kissing the pig and horse, well I’ll just say that I haven’t seen something like that before. I was funny though, and I enjoyed getting out of class to go to a pig and horse kissing. I also think that what everybody did for the Relay for Life is awesome. A lot of people wouldn’t have done this or given any donations at least I hope people gave donations. I wish I could have been apart of Relay for Life. Sincerely,
Becky Cunningham

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

During Relay for Life there was a bake sale, you could buy memory balloons, relay tags, and you could pay 50 cents to wear a hat. The class that raised the most money won free popsicles. For K-5 Ms. Schultz’s class won, for 6-8 Mrs. Warman’s class won, and for 9-12 Mr. Lamm’s class won. I’m in Mrs. Warman’s class and I can’t wait for those popsicles.

The whole school raised $1,005.00 all together! The bake sale raised $78, and the memory balloons, relay tags, and hats raised $927. Maybe we could find a cure for cancer.

Our first goal was $350. If we reached that Mrs. Hagen would kiss a pig, but then we went over our goal. So we raised the goal to $800. If we reached that goal Mrs. Hagen would kiss another animal, but we went over that too! The other animal was a minny horse. It was really cute.

Also, we walk for the whole day. Emily Barnard and I walked 154 laps around the gym. 22 laps equal 1 mile, so we walked 7 miles exact!

Sincerely,

Kaylan Fitch

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

Relay for Life was a great thing to do. We raise $1,005 for Relay for Life. I think we did very good raising all the money we raised. I walked over 4 miles, when it was time to walk for Relay for Life. It hurt my legs to keep walking the whole day, but I toughened it up and I kept walking. It was amazing are school went non-stop walking around the gym for Relay for Life. I think Relay for Life is a great thing to do to raise money for cancer. I’m pretty sure that we cured someone’s cancer. It will be great if we keep having the Relay for Life every year. We could raise so much money and cure lots of cancer for lots of other people. I think next year we can raise twice as much! I really enjoyed having the Relay for Life to cure the cause of cancer, even though I hurt my legs. I hope we cured someone’s cancer.

Sincerely,

Jake Florian

Dear Mrs. Eldridge,

I had lots of fun at Relay for Life. I was a lot of fun getting to were a hat. I also thought it was nice that we were raising money for people with cancer. Every day I wore a hat. Also on the day were walked I walked about 6 to 7 miles. It was a lot of fun just to walk and talk with our friends. My first hour class is Mrs. Warman. Our class won the contest for the middle school! In elementary Ms. Schultz and for high school Mr. Lamm won. Now we get popsicles. All the school had to raise to make Mrs. Hagen kiss a pig was $350 but on the first day the school only raised $53.72. Then the next day we raised $412.91 Just on Tuesday. Then the next day we raised $238.24 and the next day was $131.39 and the next day was $89.56. So she had to kiss a pig. She also had to kiss a horse because we raised over $800. It was a lot of fun. I hope we do this again.

Sincerely,

Curtis McKenney
