James (cool papa) Bell

            James Bell was born in the town named Starkville, Mississippi. The year James was born was May 17, 1903.This is when James bell was born and where he lived.

 

           Cool Papa grew up in the 1900’s. He couldn’t play baseball with the white teams because in that time there was segregation. He still played baseball. Because of this he could only play in the Negro League. He still went into the Hall of Fame.

 

           In 1922 Bell joined the St. Louis Stars in the Negro National Baseball League. In 1924 he had become a great center fielder, and was the “fastest man in the league”. He then joined the Detroit Wolves when the Negro National League fell apart. Soon the Wolves disbanded, and he joined the Kansas City Monarchs. He eventually coached the Monarchs and taught some of the greatest baseball stars.

 

           James Bell died in his home in St. Louis, Missouri, on Dickson Street in 1991, at the age of 87. He was also was put into the Hall of Fame. He also coached a lot of baseball stars who may play now. This is what he did and when he died.
