Martin Luther King Jr.

 

Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born January 15, 1929. Martin Luther King his father changed their names to martin. Martin Luther King Jr. went to Morehouse collage. They stayed there for a long time.

Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He was unhappy because of all the rules for black people. They couldn’t even go to the same school as white people. They had separate water fountains they had to drink out of. The white people sometimes would burn down black people’s houses or stores. If a white kid was found playing with a black kid the black kid probably would have been hurt or even killed. Some white people took black people in the middle of the night and killed them for no reason at all it was a very rough time for Martin Luther King Jr. (www.biography.com)

 

Martin Luther King Jr. was a priest so was his father Martin Luther King. He was a civil rights leader. He was the son of the pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Martin Luther King Jr. was ordained in 1947 and became minister of a Baptist church in Montgomery in 1954 He led the black boycott of city bus lines and in 1956. Then he became a civil rights leader. When Montgomery buses began to operate on a desegregated basis.

Martin Luther King Jr. unfortunately died. He died April 4, 1968. This emphasis on economic rights took King to Memphis, Tennessee, to support striking black garbage truck workers in the spring of 1968. He was assassinated in Memphis on April 4. When people heard of the assassination it made people go crazy. People had shock and anger throughout the world, riots in more than 100 United States cities in the days following Martin Luther King Junior’s death. In 1969 James Earl Ray, a white convict, that escaped was guilty to the murder of Martin Luther King Junior’s  and was sentenced to 99 years in prison. Ray later made his confession. Although over the years many investigators have suspected that Ray was not alone when he killed him.  In 1999 there was a jury in a Memphis
