My person is Duke Ellington.( Edward Kennedy Ellington) He was known as Performer of “Take the ‘A’ Train.” Duke Ellington was born April 29, 1899. He was born in Washington, D.C.

Duke Ellington had a good fulfilling life. He started as a pool hall piano player and later on became one of the great figures in American Jazz. He was also a Grammy  Award-winning jazz pianist, composer, and orchestra leader. Ellington's orchestra featured jazz's biggest names and was remembered as one of the country’s biggest Jazz leaders. He made tremendous progress in the jazz idiom. He was one of the first to use classical themes in Jazz.

Duke Ellington’s accomplishments were he made a lot of songs. Some of his hits were “Take the ‘A’ Train”, as "Mood Indigo," "In A Sentimental Mood," and "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing." He achieved the name “Performer of "Take the 'A' Train." People recognized him as one of the greatest figures in American jazz. He is also still considered one of the most innovative composers in jazz history.

He died on May 24, 1974. He died in New York City. He died of cancer. One of the great American Jazz players has passed.
