Jordan Speaks

American politician and educator Barbara Jordan acquired a reputation as an eloquent speaker. Representing Texas in the United States House of Representatives, she was praised for her speeches there and at the 1976 and 1992 national conventions of the Democratic Party.

Barbara Jordan was born on Feb. 21, 1963. Barbara was born in Houston, Texas. She was raised up by Rev. Benjamin M. Jordan and Arlene Jordan. Barbara Jordan died on Jan. 17,1996

in Houston Texas.

 

As she was growing up she went to Wheatley High School. She graduated with a GPA between 3.6 and 3.8 from Texas Southern University in 1956.  She also then graduated from

Boston University Law School in 1959. She passed Bar Exams

in Massachusetts. Before going back to Houston she opened a

law practice.

 

Barbara Jordan was active in the presidential campaign for Kennedy –Johnson in 1960. She wanted to be part of the change. She ran for a seat in the Texas Senate in 1966, and won. She was the first African American state senator since 1883. She was also the first Black woman to serve in the Texas Senate. She served a full term in the Texas Senate.

 

Barbara Jordan died 17, 1996. She did many things in the government. She helped a lot of others in her life. She had a good life.
