Performing Arts:  Onekama Middle School is offering a Performing Arts Rotation Series directed and taught by Gretchen Eichberger-Kudlack. Classes include Theater, American Folk Music and Dancing, Jazz and Blues, and finally, Great Composers of the Piano.  Each class provides experiential opportunities with quality literature being the content of each class. 

1st Marking Period: This quarter the students are gaining a broader perspective on being on stage and behind the scenes in Theater. During the quarter students will learn storytelling techniques, participate in dialogue and monologue presentations, and create components of improvisation, as well as demonstrate pantomiming techniques.

3rd Marking Period American Folk Music and Folk Dancing Topics

This class will provide the student with a brief overview of American Folk Music. Emphasis will be placed on American Roots Music genres which include the following;

Spirituals, Ballads, Bluegrass, Western Swing, Country, Honky-Tonk, Urban Blues, Delta Blues, Gospel, Zydeco, Cajun, Tejano, Native American, and  “general” Folk.

Folk dances associated with Country, Cajun, and Ethnic Folk genres will also be introduced.  Specific dances will include, Cajun two- step, Western two-step, polka, and contra dance.
