Onekama's 5th & 6th Grade Team Ends Their Season With a Win

On Tuesday 10/11/05 the 5th and 6th grade football team closed out their season at home against the Manistee Blue team with a 22-16 win. This puts them 4-2 for the season.

With 9:11 left in the second quarter Scott Wethy scored on a 16 yard run and Quinn Matthews ran in the 2 point conversion and the Portagers were up 8-0. Then again in the 2nd quarter with 7:49 left Quinn scored as he scampered 14 yards into the end zone and Wethy added the 2 point conversion and OHS was ahead 16-0.

Again in the 2nd quarter with 1:09 left Quinn broke loose for a 25 yard run and the 2 point conversion was no good and OHS was ahead 22-0 at the half.

Manistee scored 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter and both times the 2 point conversion were good and they held OHS score less in the 2nd half but Onekama hung on to win by a score of 22-16 and close out a good season with a record of 4-2.

Yesterday we had a football game against Manistee/Jackpine. First Onekama had the score 8-0. Next it was 16-0, then it was 22-0. Then they caught up. Our team got two intersepsions and couple of fumbles recovered. When the game was over it was 22-16. Onekama won. Our record of season was 4-2. We beat MCC and they hadn't lost in 4 years. Last night we had our last football game. We beat the other team, and they were out for blood. In the second half or second quarter we scored 3 touchdown. We won four out of 6 games. We lost too. It was great. ...Bryce

Last night was our last game. We versed a Manistee team we had already played. We won 22-16 on our field. I made two touchdowns and Scott made one. Scott is from Bear Lake. This year I made 12 touchdowns. We lost to MCC and a Manistee team. This year we won to Brethren, Chipawas, Jackpine and MCC. This year I played running back and corner back. ...Quinn.
