Middle Schoolers in Mrs. Ramsey's class gathered supplies to sent to hurricane victims. If you would like to contribute, we welcome your help. Please send any supplies with your student to Advisory class. You can also make donations in Mrs. Ramsey’s room. There will also be a hat day for a donation on Friday and bake sales every Friday this month.

Needed supplies: Toothpaste, razors, shampoo, towels, washcloths, underwear (men and women), diapers, and toilet paper. Please contact Miss French or Mrs. Ramsey with any questions.

On Fridays we get to wear hats. The money we bring to school goes to the Red Cross. I think it's really helpful. I think everyone should wear a hat. ...Austin G, Grade 5

For the last two weeks our school has been having bake sales and hat days to raise money for the victims of Katrina. I think this is a really great thing to do. There are lots of people down there that still don't have all the things they need. Our money will go towards house hold items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper and diapers. Every little bit of money helps. So whether we raise $100 or $1000 it makes me feel great to know I helped people. ...Kailani Buckner, middle school

The reason we are doing the bake sales and hat days every Friday this month is because of what happened in New Orleans. There are millions of dollars worth of damage. We also had a drive to collect things that people needed. A lot of companies are trying to help the victims. I hope everything turns our alright. I wish the people of New Orleans the best of luck. ...Mary Jane Christensen, middle school

Hat Day is a good idea. We are doing it for the Hurricane relief. You have to give 50 cents to wear your favorite hat to school. We also did a bottle drive. I brought in a lot of bottles. Both ideas are for the Common Good. We might even make more than 200 dollars. People are really generous. ....Bryce R, grade 5

Our plan at Onekama School is to raise money for the victims of hurricane Katrina. We are having bake sales and hat days for donations to the Red Cross. We also had everyone bring in things from home. Some brought in shampoo and canned food. Some even brought in clothes. Everyone is trying their best to help the citizens in Louisiana and other states affected by the hurricane. We hope that many more people will help by sending donations or starting their own fund raiser. ...Haley Laws, middle school

Our class got a lot of hat money. Some people up in five to ten dollars. Mostly everybody in our class has a hat on. This is a good thing to do because you are saving lives. Hopefully we will make more money. Our whole school is doing this, and so should you. ...Quinn, grade 5

<--Brett Joanette took a moment from Homecoming Court duties to pose with elementary students, Sami T., Sierra, Brandon, Elizabeth, Carlee, Matthew, April and Sylvia. Thanks for being a good sport, Brett!

Most of the people who we are helping need a new beginning, but they have little or nothing to begin with. Most only have the clothes on their backs. Some may have a wallet or some emergency supplies. A few have food and water of their own, but most have nothing. The purpose of these fundraisers is to raise money for the victims. The other purpose of this event is to supply these poor, suffering people with signs of hope. ...Jake B. middle school

I wore my hat from Mackinac Island. The price to wear a hat was fifth-cents. Well, that was the minimum donation. I thought that it went to a good cause. Almost all of the people wore a hat. ...Brittany, grade 5

Onekama Consolidated Schools is trying to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina victims down in the southern states that were hit hard. Everything that most people had was ruined. Some people were very fortunate and only lost a couple things, but a lot lost their homes, cars, and most valuable possessions. Our school is raising money by hosting bake sales and having Hat Day every Friday. All the donations and money is going to the Red Cross. Hopefully we raise a lot and can make a big difference in these people's lives. ...Brenda Christensen, middle school

I like hat day because it is cool to wear a hat to school. The money that we collect goes to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. ...Daniel M. grade 5

I feel really bad for those people in New Orleans, but I don't think they should have built the city like that. I watch the news a lot so I know about things. I hope they end up building the city better. I am glad we are raising money for the damage from Hurricane Katrina, because I like helping out people. ...Ashley DeRooy, middle school

I think it is a good cause and I am glad our school is doing something to help the people from that area. It is a horrible thing that happened when the city of New Orleans was devastated. I want to do everything I can for the people that don't have any food, water, clothes, beds and other things that they need to live normally. ...Logan Place, middle school

Our school has collected money to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. We had hat day for two days. Mr. Neph's fifth grade class also had a bottle drive to get money to give to the hurricane victims. ...Amy K.

I gave money but I did not wear a hat. I feel good that we are giving money to the hurricane victims. I thought all the people who donated money were very thoughtful. I had fun looking at all the different hats. ...Sarah

Lately we have been raising money for Hurricane Katrina. We have been having hat days and bake sales, we have also been donating clothes for the victims that lost everything they own. We are giving our money to the Red Cross to take to the hurricane victims to give them food and medical help. ...Alex Block, middle school

Hat Day is when you get to wear any hat you want. Last Friday I wore a Portage Point Inn hat and this time I wore a Boston Red Sox hat. Some people wore a wacky hat and some people wore a regular hat. ...Parker, grade 5
