6th Grade MRA Football Schedule for 2004

9/21 6:00 at MCC 5th & 6th Grade Football team lost to MCC on Tuesday by a score of 6-28.
9/25 2:00 at Manistee High The 5th & 6th graders won last Saturday 9/25/04 at MHS
9/28 6:00 at Onekama

vs Brethren

The 5th & 6th graders took on Brethren at OHS field. Brethren scored with 6:12 left in the first quarter and added the extra points to lead 0-8. But with 3:51 left in the second quarter Nolan Salyer scampered about 14 yards for a touchdown. The Portagers didn't get the extra points and at the half were behind by a score of 6-8. Neither team scored in the 3rd quarter, but in the 4th quarter with 4:54 left in the game Dylan Koschtial threw a pass to Brandon Clark and he went in for the touchdown on a play that covered about 40 yard. The young Portagers held on to win by a score of 12-8 and the Young Portagers after shaking hands got to ring the Portagers Victory Bell.

vs Manistee Purple

At OHS football field at 4:00 p.m. the 5th and 6th graders took on the purple team from Manistee in a cool and windy afternoon. In the 1st quarter with 3:15 to go Onekama scored on a 61 yard run by Chuck Schodel to lead 6-0 but Manistee came back to score twice in the 2nd quarter to take a 6-12 lead but OHS scored with 3:32 on a 51 yard run by Nolan Saylor to tie it at 12-12 but Jared Miller picked up a fumble at 3:10 mark in the 2nd quarter and scampered 43 yard to give OHS a 18-12 lead at the half. In the 3quarte,r OHS scored with 3:45 on a 10 yard run by Jared Miller to lead 24-12. Manistee came back and scored with 2:31 left in the 3rd to cut the lead to 24-18. Onekama came back on a 71 yard run by Chuck Schoedel 2 point conversion good to lead 32-18. Manistee scored in the 4th to cut it back to a 32-24 lead. OHS came back with 1:00 minute to go and scored on a 10 yard run by Schoedel and 2 point conversion. This added to their lead and they won by a score of 40 -24. Once again the young Portagers got to ring the Portager Victory Bell. Their next game will be at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday October. 5th at OHS field Congratulation on your Victory young Portagers. 10/5 at Onekama

vs Manistee Red

On a cool and breeze late afternoon at OHS field, the 5th and 6th grade team took on the Red team from Manistee. OHS took the opening kickoff and marched down the field and scored on a 9 yard run by Nolan Salyer. With 4:05 to go in the 1st quarter, a 2 point conversion was good and OHS had a 8-0 lead. Manistee scored at the end of the first quarter but the 2 point play failed and OHS led 8-6 after the first quarter. Manistee scored twice in the 2nd quarter to take a 8-18 halftime lead. With 13 seconds left in the 3rd quarter OHS scored to make the score 14-18. Then Manistee scored in the 4th to take a 14-26 lead. Nolan Salyer took the Kickoff at the 5:02 mark and ran it back 62 yards for a touchdown and also ran in the 2 point conversion play to make the score 22-26. For OHS Adrian N. intercepted a pass at about Mid field and OHS took the ball down inside the 10 yard line but then on a fumble they turned the ball over to Manistee and they ran the clock out to win by a score 22-26. Thanks to the coaches, parents and young players for a good season of football. Thanks to Ron Graf for announcing all the young players from both teams for the three home games over the PA before the start of each game.
