Middle School Shop Project

Shop Project
By: Nolan Salyer

This has been a very fun year in shop. I got to use lots of new tools and types of wood. Some power tools I used this year were the band saw, belt disc sander, drill, sander, drill press, planer, and the jointer. I also used lots of hand tools like the coping saw, file, hammer, and square.

There are lots of safety rules in shop. The most important rules though are you always have to wear safety glasses in the shop. You also have to turn off your tool when you aren’t using it. There are also yellow lines around each power tool that only the operator can be in when the tool is running. Some other safety tips you should know is you should keep your sleeves rolled up when operating a power tool so they don’t get caught. You should also make shore the wood you are drilling is secured so it doesn’t slip or break.

Some of the projects I made in shop class this year were a foot stool, tool box, folding chair, napkin holder, sled, and a Christmas tree. These were all fun to make and a little difficult. I have had a lot of fun in shop class this year and I think Mr. Lamb is a great teacher. Thank you for a great year in shop class. Mr. Lamb, it was really fun.

This is our last marking period with Mr. Lamm. We’re going to miss him a lot because he’s the nicest teacher in the world.

We have some safety rules for all the machines: Like you have to wear safety glasses when you use the machine. You got to ask before you use the machine, and you got to shut the machine off when you’re done.

I finished all of my four projects. My first one was my folding stool. The second one was a step stool. Are third one was the tool box. The last one was a letter holder. I also made a sled. The sled I gave my mom for Christmas and I gave my dad for Christmas a tool box.

We’re having a party for the end of the year. These people are bringing pop Travis, Taylor, and Todd. These people are bringing chips Nolan and I. These people are bringing snakes Tommy, Me, Ashley. These people are bringing cups Duane, and these people are bringing napkins Maeve.

We use about the same amount of tools as the last semester. We still use tools like the bansaw, and two other saws but I forgot them.

I think we used white pine for I think all of the projects like the folding stool, the step stool, the tool box, the sled, and the letter holder that I’m going to finish soon. Sometimes during shop we have time to play games like superdxball of pocket tanks. Also before class we have about five minutes to play but it takes about two minutes to load so you have like three minutes to play. I think shop is my favorite subject out of all of the classes.

I am in shop class. I like shop class its fun. We have made some projects. Some of these projects were a folding stool, a stool, a tool box, and a napkin holder. My favorite was the tool box. I liked it because it was not too small and not too big.

Next semester we will be in gym. I like shop but I’m sure gym will be just as fun. I liked shop because we got to use power tools. At first I thought I would cut my fingers off… but I have used power tools before so I thought it wouldn’t be hard at all. And it wasn’t…………….

My favorite tool was the band saw I liked the band saw because it cut clean and accurate. My favorite hand tool was the coping saw because I like the coping saw.

My favorite project was the tool box. I liked it because it didn’t take long and it was very very, very easy. I liked it because I got to use all of the tools and it was the same concept as the folding stool. I liked all of the projects and I like shop class. But all good things must come to an end. And shop is done and that was a good thing so I know that’s the truth… but, looking on the bright side we will all have gym.

For the second marking period of shop class I made two projects. The first project was a tool box. It was not really hard because the directions were pretty easy. First I had to mark up my board. Then I had to cut the board up into the pieces I need.

The second project was a napkin holder. It took some time but I got it done before the holidays. I had to do a lot of stuff but when I got it done it looked really nice. It all started out as a really big board. At the end I had to wood burn out words.

In shop class we used a lot of tools. The tools that we used were the planner, router, band saw, drill press, belt disk sander, pattern, lacquer, router table, wood file, dowel rod, jointer, sanders, elec. drill, square, screws, coping saw, back saw, wood glue, wood files, crosscut saw, c-clamps, and bar clamps. I got to use all of the tools. The tools were pretty cool. My favorites were the coping saw and the sanders.

On some of the stuff I needed help on like on some of the projects. On the first project I worked with Duane. He helped me with most of it and then he did his project. The second project Mr.Lamm helped me. On the third I did a lot on my own. On the fourth I did some with Mr.Lamm and the rest I did by my self.

I’m doing really good in shop right now. My grade is an A. I really like shop class too. I like working with wood and making projects. I think shop class is fun too.

The safety rules are not to go to close to some of the big machinery when other people are using them. You want to stay out side of the yellow line. Then you always want to wear safety glasses. You don’t want to mess around with the tools because you could hurt somebody. You also don’t want to put your hand in the planner.

I really like shop.

This marking period I made a tool box, an envelope holder, and 5 Christmas trees. We used pine wood for all of our projects. For the Christmas trees I used a drill press, belt-disk sander, and the band saw. For the tool box I used a drill press, band saw, coping saw, back saw, plainer, wood file, stain, lacquer, electric sanders, jointer, a dowel rod, and c-clamps. For the envelope holder I used a drill press, a pattern, a wood file, lacquer, band saw, coping saw, back saw, crosscut saw, c-clamps, wood glue, and a square. Mr. Lamm is the best teacher I’ve had. We are going to have an End of the Year Shop Party.

My Second Semester of Shop
Travis McKenney

I did all of these things in my second semester of shop, and these are all of the tools I used planer, router, band saw, drill press, belt sander, disk sander, patterns, lacquer, router table, wood file dowel rod, jointer, sander, electric drill, square, screws, backsaw, coping saw, wood glue wood files, nails, cross cut saw, bar clamp, and C clamps

The first thing I made this semester was a pine tool box then a sled three Christmas trees and a napkin holder.

My favorite thing was the pine sled it took four. The first step was traced the pieces of wood. Then I cut those pieces out with the band saw. After that I sanded the pieces. Then cut the pieces in half. Finally I put it together.

Shop class has been really fun this year. We got to make some cool projects. Mr. Lamb is a really great teacher. You don’t see many teachers with a good sense of humor and lots of patience. We use a lot of tools and power tools. The best tool is the drill press. The worst tool is the coping saw. I say that because I have gotten cut by the coping saw several times. But shop is still cool.

We have made four projects so far. The first project was the folding stool. The second project was a pine stepping stool. The third project was the toolbox. I like the toolbox the most because it didn’t take long, wasn’t too big, and wasn’t too small. The last project we made was the letter box. This project is pretty cool too. The Christmas projects were Christmas trees, or sleds. I gave all my projects away to family members as Christmas gifts.

Like I said, shop is pretty cool. And Mr. Lamb is a cool teacher.
