Portagers Tackle Their Opponents

By Luke Fogarty

The Onekama-Bear Lake seventh and eighth grade football team has started off the season by winning three scrimmages then almost beat Brethren and smoked Manistee Catholic Central 60 to 14.

"My favorite position is nose tackle in defense and line backer in offense," says seventh grader Travis Schram. Most people like offense but Travis prefers defense. He thinks defense is better because you get to tackle people and cover fumbles. Some people like offense because you get to score touchdowns and carry the ball.

Since Bear Lake students are part of the team, it gives Onekama students a chance to meet them. The team is coached by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Sedelmaier "If you’re going to get hurt, you might as well get hurt playing football," says part-time quarterback Drew Griswold.
