Rough Start for the Eighth Grade Girls
By Jackie Klajda

The Onekama eighth grade girls’ basketball team consists of Courtney Griswold (low post), Carmen Hayes (wing), Carmen Howard (wing), Sarah Eipperle (wing), Kelsey Acker (point guard), Megan Cronkhite (two guard and wing), Alyssa Cole (high post), and Kieran O’Connor (wing and point guard). Mr. Keith coaches the team.

So far this season, the girls have played six games and won two of them. Their games have all been very close, so they are doing very well. Carmen Hayes commented, "I enjoy my team most of the time, but we need to work on our techniques and our ball handling skills. We need more playing time too." Courtney Griswold said, "We have a good team, but we need more practice because we don’t shoot too well." Sarah Eipperle added, "The team gets along really well and we have a lot of fun. We always have our heads held high!"

Although the girls have had a rocky start they are practicing hard in hope to do well in the upcoming tournaments. Good luck girls!

"Seventh grade brings in early wins"
By Stacey Keith

The Onekama Middle School seventh grade basketball team has blown away the season so far with a winning streak of 4-1.

This year there has been an extreme change in playing time. Some girls like Chelsea Miller have responded, "I enjoy getting more playing time!" Others like Mallory have said, "You have to work harder to get playing time compared to last year."

"Most players are learning more and improving on shooting techniques", expressed Chelsea Miller. Mr. Burtch explains, "Equal playing time has affect the team so it will encourage the players to work harder to improve skills."

The team averages about 20 points per game. The players that participate are Chelsea Miller, Robyn Savory, Lucie Salyer, Anna Veverica, Alexi Callaway, Stacey Keith, Paige Rutowski, Mallory Mattson, Erin Brown and Olivia Bolthouse. The players and the coach believe that the season will get better and better.
