They played their first game of the season on Monday 12/15/03 by traveling over to county rival, the Brethren Bobcats. It was a very close game the whole way, as the score was tied at 17 each at the half. In the last quarter the young Portagers pulled out a 38 to 33 win over the Bobcats to get there 1st victory of the season Leading the young Portagers in scoring was Anthony Reedy burningthe nets with 20 points, Nick Bradford swished the nets for 16 points and Jim Kosiboski added 2 points. The next game for the young Portagers will be Wednesday 12/17/03 at home when they take on their other county rival, the Bear Lake Lakers.
The 8th grade Boys Basketball team is coached by Dennis Manke and team members are Nick Bradford, Scott McKeel, Anthony Reedy, Jim Kosiboski, Clyve Lagerquist, Josh Cebula, Justin Zupin and Nathan Morrill.
12/17 Bear Lake at Home

Lost 24-50

The 8th grade Boys played their county rivals, the Lakers from Bear Lake, at home. At the half they trailed by a score of 9 to 26 and the Lakers kept there pace up by beating the young Portagers by a score of 24 to 50 to hand the 8th graders their 1st loss. Clyve Lagerquist hit the nets for 10 points, Nick Bradford connectedfor 9 points and Anthony Reedy chipped in with 5 points. The 8th graders are now off until 1/07/04 when they play MCE away. 1/07 at Mason County E.

Won 36-17

The 8th grade boys traveled to MCE to take on the Cardinals in a conference game in a close first half that saw the young Portagers lead by a score of 17-13 over the Cardinals. In the 2nd half the young Portagers turned up the paced and won easily by a score of 36 to 17 over the Cardinals to see their season record go to 2-1. Leading the way was Nick Bradford who burned the nets for 17 points followed by Jim Kosiboski with 9, Anthony Reedy added 6, Clyve Lagerquirst added 4 points.
1/12 at Bear Lake On Monday the 8th graders traveled to Bear Lake to take on the Lakers. In a very exciting first half the score was tied at 20-20 and at the end of 3 quarters the Portagers were down by a score of 29- 36. In the 4th quarter The younger Portagers couldn't catch the Lakers who beat them by a score of 40 - 55 to see their season record drop to 2-2. Leading the Portagers were Nick Bradford & Anthony Reedy with 14 points each. Scott McKreel added 8 and Clyve Lagerquist 4.
1/14 Brethren at home On Wednesday 1/14/04 there Basketball game at home against Brethren was cancelled
1/15 at Frankfort On Thursday 1/15/04 the Portagers traveled to the Frankfort Panthers gym and lost to the Panthers by 4 points and there season record now is 2 - 3
1/19 MCE at home On Monday 1/19/04 there game at home against MCE Cardinals was cancelled due to the weather no make up date is set.
1/21 Baldwin at Home On Wednesday 1/21/04 there home game against Baldwin was cancelled due to the weather no make up date is set.
1/24 WMD at MCE On Saturday the 8th grade Portagers traveled to MCE gym to take on the Bear Lake Lakers in a WMD North tournament which included MCE, Bear Lake, Brethren and OHS. At the end of the first quarter the Portagers led by a score of 10 - 8 and at the half trailed by a score of 17 - 19. But in the 3rd quarter the young Portagers couldn't get going and only scored 5 points and trailed by a score of 22 -40. Going into the final quarter but they couldn't catch the Lakers and lost by a score of 30 - 55. They will play Brethren next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at MCE in the consolation game . Leading the Portagers in scoring was Nick Bradford & Jim Kosiboski with 10 points each. Anthony Reedy added 8 and Josh Cebula with 2.
1/26 Mesick at home The 8th grade boys took on the Mesick Bulldogs at home and led at the half by a score of 20-10. They continued on in the second half to win by a score of 48-20. Leading in scoring was Nick Bradford who swished home 19 points, Anthony Reedy added a strong 16, Josh Cebula netted 4, Jim Kosiboski added 3, and Clyve Lagerquist, Justin Zupin and Nathan Morrill all had 2 points each as everybody got in the scoring column tonight as they improved on there season mark to 3-4
1/28 to Brethren Cancelled due to the weather
1/31 WMD at MCE The 8th grade went to MCE gym to play Brethren in the consolation game of the North WMD conference tournament and came away with a 50 to 40 Victory over Brethren to improve there season record to 4-4 for the season. MCE played Bear Lake in theChampionship game.
2/2 MCC On Monday 2/02/04 the MCE Cardinals traveled to the home of the Portagers to take on the OHS 8th graders and the Portagers were ready to play Basketball. They led at the half by a score of 32 to 9 and in the 2nd half kept on rolling to beat the Cardinals by a score of 55 - 29 and get their season record to 5- 4. Leading the scoring was Anthony Reedy with 20, Nick Bradford added 16, Jim Kosiboski netted 10, Clyve Lagerquist hit for 6, and Justin Zupin swished through a 3 pointer to close out the scoring.
2/04/04 MCC Sabers On Wednesday 2/04/04 the 8th Grade MCC Sabers came to Onekama to play our young Portagers and the Portagers started out quick again to lead at the half by a score of 32 - 8. In the second half they just kept rolling and won by a score of 55 to 29 to close out the season on a 3 game winning streak. They ended with a record of 6-4 for the season. Leading the Portagers in scoring was Nick Bradford whom burned the nets for 20 points, Anthony Reedy swished in 18, Jim Kosiboski added 14, and Clyve Lagerquist with 8,
