Grades 5-6 Football

Player Comments:

We had three football games so far, and we have won one of our games. We have practice three times a weeks, if they did not change it. Football has been fun for me. It is a great sport to play, I think every boy should play. We have games on Wednesdays and some times Tuesdays. Football is so fun I am going to play next year. …Drew, grade 5

Football is fun because you get to hit the guy with the ball. It hurts when you have the ball because somebody hits you. Strength you need. Strength in football especially if you're on the line. I play on defense line and offence line and kick off. And every single one hurts. …Lucas, grade 5

We had a foot ball game last Wednesday. At first we thought we were gonna lose. So we went to the game. We had lots of fun. But the weather was bad most everybody was bundled up. I was frozen. All the members of my team did very good. At the end we won the game. Everybody was very happy. ..Zac, grade 5

Football is a contact sport that is a game of chess. Foot ball is a game of pain. No pain, no game. In foot ball your gonna get dirty no matter what so I wouldn’t wash my clothes unless it’s a tournament and your still gonna get dirty. I hate some of the practices, Some of them are so stupid, but I still like foot ball. When we do practices, we get in a circle and stretch and run up and down hills and run plays it is really fun. …by Hunter, grade 5

The Onekama Fifth and Sixth grade football team had a great season! The coaches Les Johnson, Brian Makey, and Toby Griswold said the team did great. The team probably would have never won if it wasn’t for their great teamwork. The quarterback, Jim Kosiboski, says he thinks the Manistee Green team was the hardest. If Jim wasn’t quarterback, he would want to be linebacker. Jim says it’s not that hard being quarterback. The football program is sponsored by the MRA, also known as the Manistee Recreation Association. The teams are identified by color. At one of the practices, the football team even got to jump in the mud!

Their best game played was against Brethren, they won, but the MRA doesn’t keep score. Congratulations to this years 5th and 6th grade football team!
