Onekama PTO

The PTO continues to maintain a high level of recreational experiences. These include good behavior ski day at Crystal Mountain and a good behavior field day at the end of the school year.  They have provided a major part of the financial support for the playground and outdoor basketball courts in Onekama.  They continue to purchase sports equipment that students use during recess.

The PTO has helped with the purchase of band equipment, funded the books for Guided Reading, organize morning treats during the two weeks of MEAP testing by 4th & 5th grade students, host a staff appreciation luncheon; provide funding for March Reading Month activities, etc.

Please continue to cut and save Campbell’s soup labels and the Box Tops for Education coupons.  Your Oleson’s grocery receipts and your purchases at Glen’s Market also help support the PTO projects.

Athletic Boosters

The Athletic Boosters continue to build community support and instill a sense of pride to the Onekama School Athletic program.  During the 2008-09 school year over $20,000 was donated by the Boosters through the purchase of uniforms, baseball equipment, softball equipment, football equipment, volleyball equipment, track equipment, scholar athlete awards, two unsung hero scholarships, varsity team photo handout at last home games, wallet size team schedules, 2008-2009 athletic programs.

Band & Academic Boosters

If you have attended a football or basketball game you’ve witnessed the Onekama Band and Academic Boosters in action at the football concession stand and the basketball 50/50 raffle table.  With the monies taken in along with generous donations from some of the 50/50 raffle winners, the boosters have been able to grant scholarships in excess of $3,000 to deserving seniors.  Financial support was provided to the Onekama band program for participation in Solo & Ensemble competitions, repair of band instruments, needed band supplies, and the purchase of new band shirts.

Giving Tree Project

The Onekama Lions Club, National City Bank, and Onekama PTO combined their efforts to make  the Holiday Giving Tree Project a success for district families.  Trees were decorated in the entrance area of the school with tags listing items that were needed by families within our school district.   Items collected included clothing, winter jackets, boots, food, and household products.  Community support has been so overwhelming that 24 families have been served through the program.

Portage Lake Water Study and Watershed Program

For the past 15 years, students and teachers from Onekama Schools have worked with the township and village to collect and test the water of Portage Lake.  Through the Watershed program,  grants will be available to continue the study, education and protection of this beautiful watershed we live in.  What better way to educate our community than through our students.  Thank you to those that have put their time and donations  toward purchasing the fabulous “Fish” during the Fish Out of Water Auction.  The “Fish” is a constant reminder of the cooperative work between the science department and the community.

The success of any school district is through the combined efforts of the parents—school—and community.  Through these strong partnerships Onekama Consolidated Schools has been able to offer their students a balanced educational experience.  In addition to  core academics, all students have an opportunity to participate in industrial technology, athletics, band, vocal music, art, robotics competition, physical education and drama.
