The Portagers’ season ended in a 25-17, 25-20, 25-15 sweep at the hands of the Warriors, who move on to tonight’s district championship against Bear Lake
“I could not have asked for anything more from any of these girls,” said Onekama coach Sherri Slater, whose team totaled just six players, with no substitutes, Wednesday night. “I thought that they all played their best match of the year.
“You look at the score, and OK, it didn’t end up in our favor, but nobody out on that floor quit,” she added. “They were in it the whole time, and I have no complaints.”
Quinn LaMont led the Portagers with six kills and 13 assists while Hailey Kott had five kills and four assists. Alyssa Clarke had three assists and a team-high 12 digs, Sydney Arendt had four digs and two kills, and McKayla Haske and Tawny Kott each served at 100 percent.
Onekama drew a first-round bye in the bracket, so the semifinal marked their first district action, whereas the Warriors were coming off a quarterfinal sweep of host Frankfort on Monday.
The Portagers, however, didn’t look to have any rust early on as they battled point for point to a tie at 14 before Forest Area pulled away for good.
