ALMA — The Onekama boys track and field team placed third among Division 4 competition on Saturday at the Alma College Scottie Classic while its female counterpart placed fourth.
The Portager boys scored 664 points for fifth overall in the 28-team meet that consisted of teams from all four divisions, while the girls scored 472 for 10th of 29 teams overall.
The meet ran schools of all sizes together, and awarded medals for a top-three finish in each event in each division.
“It was a chance to run against kids from all divisions, so obviously the competition is very good,” said Portager boys coach Tony Shrum. “All the races were really competitive all the way through.”
The Onekama boys were paced by a Division 4 win in the 1,600-meter run as Michael Belinsky, Shane Peterson, Paul Hayes, and Reilly Merrill finished in the time of 3:47.60.
