Onekama bounces back to split with Mesick

MESICK — The Onekama softball team split its series with Mesick on Thursday, falling 14-1 in the opener before bouncing back with a 13-0 victory in the nightcap.

Offense was nearly non existent for the Portagers (8-5) to start the series as Emily Bergren took the loss in the circle, finishing with three strikeouts.

“The bats were still in the bat bag, I think,” Onekama coach Rob Johnson said of the loss.

Onekama turned it around and teed off in the nightcap, paced by Kaylor DeWitt with two hits and two RBIs and Elizabeth Bergren with a pair of singles.

Ashley Kubiskey threw her first varsity shutout in the circle, allowing five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings.
