Falcons top Onekama
ONEKAMA — A cold-shooting second quarter cost the Onekama
boys basketball team in a 53-45 West Michigan D League loss to Pentwater
on Friday night.
The Portagers shot just 2-for-14 from the field in a
five-point second and were never able to fully recover, although they
threatened late.
“That’s really the story of the ballgame,” Onekama coach
Jim Hunter said of the second quarter. |
Bryce Reckow led Onekama (5-3, 4-2 WMD) with 21 points,
13 rebounds and seven assists while Jarret Sovereign had nine points and
six rebounds. Alex Wagner hit seven 3-pointers and led Pentwater (5-3,
3-3 WMD) with 28 points.
Onekama led 14-13 after the first quarter but was
outscored 18-5 in the second. The Portagers got as close as two points
down the stretch but couldn’t complete the comeback. They weren’t helped
by a 5-for-18 performance from the line.
“I am proud of my guys for battling back and getting back
in it,” Hunter said, “it’s just a matter of realizing you have to play
with that kind of intensity the whole game.” |
