Strong pitching carries Portagers to split with Bulldogs
MESICK — The Onekama baseball team bounced back from a 3-2 opening loss to Mesick on Thursday and ran away with a 10-1 victory in the nightcap.

“I’m happy with the split,” said Onekama coach John Neph. “We mixed up the lineup and got some of the younger kids in.”

The Portagers’ Dallas Hearit took the loss in the opener, despite a solid start. He allowed just three runs (one earned) on three hits with 10 strikeouts, but Onekama (11-4) committed five errors in the field.

 At the plate, Hearit, Jon Acton, Joe Eno, Curtis McKenney, and Josh Jacobs each had a hit.

A five-run second inning in the nightcap helped Onekama salvage a split with the Bulldogs. At the plate, Jon Eno led the way with a double and four RBIs while Joe Eno had a hit and an RBI.

Joe Eno also got the win on the mound, allowing a run on four hits with nine strikeouts in six innings.
