Portagers roll at MCE

CUSTER — The Onekama baseball team earned a West Michigan D League sweep at Mason County Eastern on Thursday.

The Portagers took the opener 7-1 and were leading the second game 13-0 before thunder and lightning halted the game after two innings. Onekama coach John Neph said MCE conceded the victory in the second game.

Joe Eno got the win in the opener after allowing just one hit over five innings after entering in relief for injured starter Bryce Reckow.

Eno also had a pair of doubles and three RBIs to lead the Portagers (8-3, 8-1 WMD).

In the abbreviated second game, Dallas Hearit struck out four of the six batters he faced and had a pair of doubles.

Reckow had three hits while Joe Eno, Jon Eno and Curtis McKenney had two each.

“It was difficult with the wind and all the elements,” said Onekama coach John Neph. “We did what we set out to do and that’s get two wins.”
