TRAVERSE CITY — The Onekama softball team swept a doubleheader against Traverse City Christian on Tuesday, taking the opener 25-1 in four innings and the nightcap 13-3 in five.

“I’m very proud of how the team bounced back from the Scottville tournament,” Onekama coach Rob Johnson said of the two losses. “They came out and played good, solid ball.”

The Portagers (6-6) got a pair of strong varsity pitching debuts from Kaitlin Kubiskey and Kaylor DeWitt.

Kubiskey got the win in the opener and allowed just one hit and one walk to go with four strikeouts.

“That was exciting for us to see — a young pitcher with the poise and control she showed,” Johnson said.

Nicki Slater had two hits.

DeWitt allowed three runs on two hits while striking out three over three innings in the second game before Emily Bergren threw the final two and got four strikeouts to go with her three hits and three RBIs at the plate.

Slater went 3-for-3, Tawny Kott had three hits and drove in a run, Jennica Mathieu had two hits and three RBIs and Hailey Kott had a hit and RBI.
