FRANKFORT — The Onekama girls basketball team lost its season opener 41-38 at Frankfort on Tuesday night.

The Portagers held multiple leads in the second half but couldn’t hold onto them as the Panthers converted late for the win. Onekama finished 14-for-31 from the free throw line.

“We had them, but we missed too many free throws,” said Onekama coach Nathan Bradford, who added that he was pleased overall with how his team played to start the season.

Jennica Mathieu led the Portagers (0-1) with 10 points and five rebounds, Hailey Kott scored nine and Danielle Ward had six to go with five rebounds and five steals.
