Onekama sweeps Crossroads

ONEKAMA — The Onekama baseball team rolled to a West Michigan D League sweep against Crossroads Charter Academy on Monday by winning both games by mercy rule in three innings.

The Portagers took the opener 16-0 and took the second game 21-0.

Onekama (7-12-2, 5-3 WMD) also got a pair of no-hitters out of starters Stephen Verrett (his second of the season) and Dallas Hearit.

“Stephen has been pitching well lately and Dallas is coming along,” said Onekama coach John Neph. “Things worked out for us.”

Verrett struck out eight of the 10 batters he faced in the opener and also had a double and an RBI. Morgan Ledford had two hits and two RBIs and Joe Eno had a single, triple and three RBIs.

Hearit struck out three in the second game.

Eno led the way with three hits and four RBIs, Verrett had two hits and drove in two, Curtis McKenney had two hits and scored three runs while Cordell Williams doubled and drove in a pair.
