Onekama vs. Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy – Game 2

The JV Lady Portagers came in to their second game of the season hosting the Cougars of Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy.  The Portagers were fired up and feeling a little hungry while they search for their first win of the season.

Things started out crazy with the fire alarms sounding shortly after tip-off and a short evacuation of the building.  After returning to play the Portagers struggled offensively and were unable to close gaps on defense which led to some easy Cougar baskets.  Turnovers, rebounds, and shooting would be key components to the disposition of this contest as the Portagers lost another hard fought contest with a score of 19-39.

In her first game of the season, Sami led the team in scoring with 6 points.  Sierra Hull and Nisha followed with 5 and 4 points respectively.  Faith and Elizabeth closed out the scoring with 2 points each.

On the defensive end, Kaylan and Sierra Hull controlled the boards with 10 rebounds each and Kaylan added a blocked shot.  Sami added another 8 rebounds and Elizabeth finished with 6 rebounds, a blocked shot and a team leading 5 steals.  Sierra Warner and Faith chipped in another 4 rebounds and Faith finished with 3 steals.  Nisha finished with 1 rebound and 2 steals while Kaitlin finished with a rebound, steal, assist and a block.

The JV team is working hard every day and improving.  They have a positive attitude and a good “team-first” mentality.  They improve each day and their hard work will pay off with a win soon.

The Lady Portagers will travel with the Varsity to Walkerville on Friday, December 10, 2010, as Walkerville doesn’t have a JV team.  We will return home to host Mesick on Monday, December 13th for a non-conference game.

Go Portagers!
