December 21, 2010ONEKAMA — The
Onekama girls basketball team had a three-game winning streak snapped
with a 45-42 loss to Mesick on Tuesday.
Trailing by one point with less than a minute left, the Portagers had
three shots to take the lead, but couldn’t convert.
“Every chance would go halfway down and pop out,” said Onekama coach
Nathan Bradford. “We didn’t get the bounces tonight.” |
Taylor Hagen led the Portagers (3-2) with 17
points and four steals while Jennica Mathieu had 15 points and eight
rebounds. Also for Onekama, Danielle Ward and Lindsay Nesburg scored
four apiece while Nicole Slater had two points.
Onekama had a 10-7 lead after the first quarter
but went into halftime trailing, 20-14.
“We started off all right then went into a little slump,” Bradford said.
“We played pretty flat.” The Portagers took a 31-30 lead into the fourth
quarter but couldn’t pull out the victory.
“If we would have played the whole game like we did in the second half,
we probably would have beat them,” Bradford said. “But, we battled hard
and didn’t give up.” |
