Every match of the night ended in either pin or an open weight class victory, while all the Chippewas left Fife Lake with at least one win to their name. Manistee’s Alex Meyers (103), David Engstrom (119), Haydon Codden (125), Nic Carter (135), Tucker Bruce (140), Nate Leino-Jones (152), Brenna Ramirez (160), Trevor Schwandt (171), and Travis Hubburd (heavyweight) all went 2-0 on the night while Mason Wallace (130) Travis McKenney (112), Jon Bailey (112), Lane Gancarz (145), Tyler Knudsen (189) and Alex Waterman (215) each had one win.

The Manistee High School wrestling team put together one of its best showings of the season by taking second place in the Kingsley Super Duals on Saturday.

MANTON — The Manistee wrestling team split a pair of matches on Wednesday night, losing to Mancelona (40-36) before beating Manton (45-33).

1/23 @ Petoskey  9:00am

PETOSKEY — The wrestling team went 1-4 to finish in fourth place at the five-school Petoskey Duals on Saturday. Meyers finished 4-0 at 103 pounds, while McKenny was 2-0 at 112 pounds. Nic Carter (135) finished 3-1 with his only loss coming on points. “They all had a phenomenal day,” Codden said of the trio.
1/28 @ Benzie   6:00pm BENZONIA — The Manistee wrestling team split a pair of matches Thursday night.
The Chippewas beat Traverse City Central 60-18, then lost to Benzie Central, 61-18.
1/30   @   Shelby 9:00am SHELBY — The Manistee High School wrestling team went 1-4 in a 14-team tournament at Shelby on Saturday. The shorthanded Chippewas lost three matches by six points or less, while their other defeat came by 21 points, after voiding four weight classes.
2/3 Hart 6:00pm MANISTEE — Manistee finished out the regular season Wednesday by hosting a tri-meet in which the Chippewas dropped a pair of matches to Hesperia and Hart. A strong Hesperia team topped Manistee 73-6 in the meet’s opening match and the Chippewas were narrowly defeated by Hart, 45-36, to close out the night.
Manistee’s David Engstrom (119), Haydon Codden (125), Nic Carter (135), Tyler Knudsen (189) and Raul Torres (heavyweight) all went 1-1 on the night.
2/6 @ Manton  9:00am MANTON — The Manistee wrestling team wrapped up its regular season by taking fourth place in the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Conference tournament.. Kingsley won the tournament title for a second straight year, finishing with 216.5 points, followed by Pine River (183.5), Benzie Central (131), Manistee (105), Mancelona (101.5), Manton (62), Forest Area (43) and Traverse City Central B (18) Haydon Codden (125) went 3-2 to finish fourth, while Nic Carter (135), Nate Leino-Jones (152), Tyler Knudsen (189) and Raul Torres (heavyweight) all finished 2-2 for fourth place.
2/11  Team Districts @ MHS  (Ludington, Manistee and Mt. Pleasant) GAYLORD — After winning a Division 2 district title on Thursday, the Manistee wrestling team has a spot in the regional round. The Chippewas will also send a pair of individuals to regional competition.
2/17 Regionals TBA BAY CITY — The Manistee High School wrestling team came up short Wednesday in Bay City during a Division II team regional match against Escanaba. The Chippewas fell 55-24 at the hands of the Eskymos, who, with the win, earned a spot in the regional final with Greenville. “It was a very well-fought match,” Manistee coach Chris Codden said. “We just fell a bit short. “They moved around some people like we knew they would and I bumped some people as well, but in the end we just came up short.” Four Chippewas earned points in the match as Alex Meyers (103), Haydon Codden (125) and Alex Waterman (215) all won by pin while Brian Fisk (135) was awarded an open-weight class victory. Manistee’s Jon Baily (112) and Lane Gancarz (145) lost by points while David Engstrom (119), Mason Wallace (130), Nic Carter (140), Nate Leino-Jones (152), Brenna Ramirez (160), Trevor Schwandt (171), Tyler Knudsen (189) and Raul Torres (heavyweight) all lost by pin fall. “It was a very heart-wrenching night,” Codden said of the program’s first team regional in recent memory, “I told the kids at the very end that I was very proud of them for making regionals and making history at Manistee High School. “(It was a) great season,” he added. “We were above .500 and what more can you say? We’re just going to keep on going and keep on plugging. “I’ve got one guy graduating and that’s it. I’ve got all 20-some guys coming back next year, so (the future is) very promising.” While Manistee’s season as a team is finished, two Chippewas — Meyers and Carter — will compete in this Saturday’s Division 2 individual regionals in Mount Pleasant.
