Onekama pitchers Brooke Sedelmaier and freshman Emily Bergren each threw no-hitters as the Portagers (11-14, 9-5 WMD) won both games of the doubleheader by mercy rule, topping the Falcons in the opener 17-0 in three innings, and the nightcap, 16-1, in three as well.
“Both pitchers pitched no hitters, but they both had good defense behind them,” said Onekama coach Phil Sedelmaier
Sedelmaier had a pair of strikeouts in the opener, while Bergren needed just one in the nightcap.
“They did a
decent job hitting the ball,” Sedelmaier
said of the Falcons. “They put it in play,
but we just made some good fielding plays
out there and were able to get out of it.”
The Portagers did their job at the plate
too.
In the opener, Onekama’s Ashley Schultz led the way, batting 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while teammates Diamond Kimpel went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Elizabeth Bergren went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Sedelmaier went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Emily Bergren, Kaylan Fitch, and Ashley DeRooy all had a hit.
