Onekama pulls away
BENZONIA — The Onekama softball team ran away from Benzie Central Monday
with a 20-8 victory in a seven-inning contest.
The meeting was originally scheduled as a doubleheader, but shortened to
one seven-inning game because of Monday’s heat.
Onekama’s bats got hot as well in the later innings, as the Portagers
(9-14) extended a 5-2 lead after four innings with a seven-run sixth and
a six-run seventh.
“It was hot and miserable,” said Onekama coach Phil Sedelmaier. “We made
a few silly mistakes, but overall played pretty well. The mistakes we
made, we were able to overcome them.” |
Brooke Sedelmaier pitched a no-hit four innings
to start the Portagers off, only giving up one walk to go with six
strikeouts, while Emily Bergren finished up the last three frames,
giving up six hits and striking out four.
At the plate for Onekama, Kaylan Fitch batted 4-for-6 with three RBIs,
Ashley Schultz went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Jennica Mathieu went 3-for-5
with three RBIs, Bergren went 3-for-4 and Sedelmaier went 2-for-4 with
three RBIs. |
