Portagers split with
Panthers
ONEKAMA — Onekama fell short in its comeback attempt in the opener of
Thursday’s doubleheader with Baldwin, but the Portagers evened the score
in the nightcap.
Onekama walked away with a split against the West Michigan D League foe
after losing 14-8 against the Panthers in the opener, and bouncing back
with a 7-5 win in the nightcap.
Brooke Sedelmaier picked up two strikeouts in the first two innings on
the mound for the Portagers, but her play at the plate was the day’s
highlight.
Trying to come back from an 11-1 deficit in the fourth, Sedelmaier hit a
grand slam over the left field fence, which served as the Portagers’
first home run knocked out of their current field. |
However, the Portagers were unable to close the
gap down the stretch. “We only had
five hits,” Portagers’ coach Phil Sedelmaier said. “Walks and errors
were the story of the game.”
Nicole Slater and Diamond Kimpel each had a hit while Emily Bergren
struck out one Baldwin batter in four innings of relief.
In the nightcap, Bergren pitched the full six innings, allowing just
three hits and tallying five strikeouts.
At the plate, Elizabeth Bergren went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple
and two RBIs, Slater went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Jennica Mathieu went
2-for-3 with a double, Ashley Schultz went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while
Katie Prielipp and Kimpel each had a hit.
Phil Sedelmaier cited just one defensive error in the win. |
