ONEKAMA — The Onekama softball team swept a
West Michigan D League doubleheader from Bear Lake on Monday, winning
the opener, 17-4, and taking the nightcap, 14-8.
“We struggled in the first game, made some errors on defense and then
they played a solid second game,” said Bear Lake coach April Bradford.
“It showed that we’ve only played eight games. It makes a difference.”
In the first game, Brooke Sedelmaier picked up the win on the mound by
allowing just three hits to go with five strikeouts. She also went
3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs.
Also for the Portagers (5-11, 4-2 WMD), Nikki Slater went 2-for-2 with
an RBI, Emily Bergren had two hits and drove in a run while Elizabeth
Bergren went 2-for-3. |
For Bear Lake, Kaydee Swanson had a double and an
RBI, Jaimey Ferguson had a double while Sarah Hilliard recorded four
strikeouts on the mound.
Emily Bergren pitched the second game and
allowed seven hits to go with nine strikeouts for her first varsity win.
She also had two hits and an RBI at the plate, as did Katie Prielipp and
Jennica Mathieu.
Swanson had three RBIs for the Lakers, Ferguson drove in two and
pitcher Shelby Dansby recorded three strikeouts.
“I was happy because this is where playing bigger schools is paying off
for us,” said Onekama coach Phil Sedelmaier, citing games against
Ludington and Mason County Central on Saturday. “The girls came out
swinging and hit the ball well. It was a good win for us.”
