Portagers drop two in Briggs
tourney
SCOTTVILLE — The Onekama softball team dropped both of its games in the
six-team Briggs True Value Hardware tournament on Saturday at Mason
County Central.
The Portagers opened with a 13-3 loss to Ludington, followed by an 18-2
loss to Mason County Central.
“We did some good things,” said Onekama coach Phil Sedelmaier. “All my
underclassmen played really well.”
Playing against a pair of bigger schools, the Portagers were unable to
overcome nine errors and 19 walks issued to their opponents.
“Walks and errors were pretty much the story of the weekend,” Sedelmaier
said.
Against Ludington, Brooke Sedelmaier pitched
all five innings and gave up nine hits and nine walks to go with two
strikeouts.
Elizabeth Bergren led
Onekama at the plate with an inside-the-park home run and two RBIs,
Nikki Slater had a hit and an RBI while Sedelmaier, Jennica Mathieu and
Emily Bergren each had one hit. |
Onekama held a 1-0 over Mason County Central after two innings, but the
Spartans exploded for seven runs in the third and 10 in the fourth to
put the game away and eliminate the Portagers from the tournament.
Emily Bergren pitched and allowed 11 hits and 10 walks with one
strikeout. Slater went 2-for-2, Sedelmaier had a triple and Elizabeth
Bergren had a hit and scored a run.
“By the end of the season, playing these bigger schools will help us,”
Phil Sedelmaier said. |
