Onekama vs. Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy –
Game 6
The
Portagers looked to get back on track with a win against the Cougars
of Big Rapids in front of their hometown crowd. Right from the
tip-off the game looked as though it would be close down to the last
shot, but as each quarter came the Portagers were able to take more
of a lead and keep the Cougars from catching up. The second quarter
was the most productive with the Portagers going into the half with
an 8 point lead. Ironically, an 8 point advantage would decide the
game as the Portagers took the win with the score of 38-30.
A great
job was done by all, but statistically the game belonged to Lindsay
and Danielle. Offensively they combined for 95% of the points.
Defensively they were among the top of the categories also. The
whole team played another very good defensive game.
The
offense was limited to only three players once again. Lindsay led
the team with 20 points and Danielle finished with 16. Katelynn
also dropped one in to finish with 2 points. The offense looked
good and took advantage of what was available. The girls moved the
ball around very nicely. |
The
defense was more balanced with everyone making big contributions.
Danielle led the way with 12 boards, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Lindsay
and Kelly each grabbed 4 rebounds and combined for 7 steals. Nicki
finished with 2 rebounds, a block and 2 steals, and Katelynn had 1
rebound and 1 steal. The team played another fine game moving with
the ball and making it difficult for the Cougars to find an easy
basket.
Coming
off the first loss of the season the girls picked their heads up and
moved forward with this win. They never let down even when it was
hard to find a shot or get things going. Their determination shows
in every practice and game and their 5-1 record.
Portager
basketball will travel to Brethren to face the Lady Bobcats on
Friday, January 15, 2010, and the game will start at 6 pm. The
Portagers look to continue their success and pick up another
conference win. Hope to see you there!
