Onekama vs.
Marion – Game 10
The
Portagers hosted the Marion Eagles in a non-conference game on Tuesday
evening. Last season we traveled to Marion and played in a hard fought
contest, but we came home with the win in the end. This game would
prove to be another difficult contest for the Portagers.
The first
quarter ended with the Portagers leading by one, but by halftime the
Eagles had pulled ahead by 5 points. Some switches on both defense and
offense and a steady determination helped pull the Portagers from behind
and take the lead by 1 at the end of the third quarter. Hard work paid
off in the end for the Portagers with a 34-32 victory at the buzzer.
Marion came in with a fierce and aggressive defense, but the Portagers
never quit and it showed up to the final buzzer.
Emily and
Lindsay led the offense in this contest with a combined 27 points.
Nicki and Kaylan added 3 points each, and Kelly dropped in a free throw
for 1 point. Baskets were not easy to come by, but could ball handling
and teamwork allowed the Portagers to take advantage of some lanes and
open shots. |
Lindsay and
Danielle led the defense. Lindsay grabbed 11 rebounds and finished with
a steal and a block. Danielle had a rough game finding fouls early on,
but still finished with 10 rebounds and 2 steals. Emily and Nicki each
had 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Nicki also had 2 blocks and one of her
steals sealed the victory for the Portagers when the Eagles were coming
down for a last second shot. Kaylan also finished with 2 rebounds in
the game.
This was a
stressful and low scoring game, but the girls put forth a great effort
and were rewarded with the victory. The JV Lady Portagers have improved
their record to 8-2 with the win!
The JV squad
will host the Manistee Chippewa Freshman on February 5, 2010. The
Varsity girls will host Pentwater following the JV contest. The game
starts at 6 pm and we hope to see you there.
Go Portagers!
