Onekama vs.
Baldwin – Game 4
December 22, 2009
Portager
basketball traveled to Baldwin to take on the Panthers in a double
header. The JV squad was looking at a fresh encounter due to the
Panthers not having a JV squad the previous season. This game would
prove to be our best outing this season as the offense and defense fired
on all cylinders!
Offensively,
the Portagers almost doubled any one of their previous game scores
finishing the game with an astounding 52 points!!! Danielle and Nicki
put up a strong 10 points each while Katelynn and Kelly added 2 a
piece. But that only adds up to 24 points. The other 28 points came
from the outstanding offensive play of Lindsay Nesburg. Lindsay was all
over the floor and was seen putting in one basket after another.
Lindsay received quite a few fouls due to her efforts, but never let
anything stop her from scoring. Of course the team helped with
Lindsay’s success, but you must still give credit where it’s due.
Go Portagers!
~Coach Torrey |
Defense is
still what this team is all about! The team finished with only 3 fouls
to Baldwin’s 25 fouls. We controlled the boards in the game bringing
down a total of 41 rebounds. Danielle once again was the lead dog in
this category with 18 rebounds. Lindsay pulled in 10 and Nicki had 5 to
add to their games. Kelly and Kaylan each grabbed 3 boards while
Katelynn finished with 2 rebounds. We took the ball away 14 times.
Danielle, Lindsay and Nicki totaled 12 of the steals. Kelly and
Katelynn each had a steal.
This was a
wonderful game to end the year on, and to look back on as 2010
approaches. All the girls played hard and it showed. There is
wonderful team chemistry with this squad and it shows in their success
and struggles. This win brings the JV record to a perfect 4 – 0. The
next contest will be the toughest yet when the Portagers face the MCE
Cardinals on January 8, 2010. Last seasons JV squad played 3 tough
contests against the Cardinals but was unable to come away with a
victory in any of the games.
The
Portagers will face the Cardinals at home and the game will start at 6
pm. The Portagers look to improve on their season in only their second
home game of the season. Hope to see you there! |
