Portagers drop first league game

PENTWATER — Onekama was unable to remain undefeated in the West Michigan D League after losing to Pentwater Friday night, 48-43.

“It was back and forth all night,” Portagers coach Nathan Bradford said. “We just couldn’t get over the hump.”

Onekama’s Taylor Hagen led the Portagers (3-2, 3-1 WMD) with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Jennica Mathieu had 12 points and seven rebounds, Sherece Revolt had 11 points and four steals, Jaylee Brown had four points with six rebounds and four steals, and Katie Prielipp added two points.

The Portagers were down by slim margins at the hands of the Falcons (4-2, 3-1 WMD) at the end of each quarter, and even took a lead late in the game.   “With less than two minutes left, we were able to get up by one, but they came back with a three-point play and we weren’t able to get the lead back,” Bradford said.

“In the first half, we had 15 turnovers and that hurt us quite a bit. Second chance baskets hurt too. But, for the most part I thought the girls battled pretty good.”

The loss serves as Onekama’s second straight after winning its first three games
