Mesick hands Onekama their first loss of the season

MESICK 12/15/09   -- The Onekama High School girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in a 42-38 loss at Mesick on Tuesday night.

The Portagers (3-1, 3-0 WMD) were doomed by poor shooting in which they made just 10 of 73 field goal attempts, and just 17 of 36 free throws.
“We had some spurts, but other than that, Mesick just outplayed us,” said Onekama coach Nathan Bradford. “Hopefully we learn from that and bounce back in the conference.”

Sherece Revolt led Onekama with 15 points and had seven steals, Jennica Mathieu had eight points, eight rebounds and eight steals, Jaylee Brown had six points and eight steals, Taylor Hagen had five points and five rebounds and Diamond Kimpel scored four. The Portagers stayed close with Mesick, but couldn’t close the game. “It seemed like every time we came back within one or two, we couldn’t get over the hump,” Bradford said.
