Onekama vs. Mesick –
Game 4
The Portagers
traveled to Mesick for a much-anticipated contest with the Bulldogs.
Both teams met for the last game of the season in February 2009, and it
ended in a disappointing loss for the Portagers. Foul trouble was the
deciding factor in that game leaving only 3 of the 8 players on the
court for the last minute of the game.
The Portagers went
in with a strong determination to win and an undefeated record backing
them up. This game was similar to the other games played this season.
The Portagers found it hard to score at times making only 10 of the 61
field goals shot, but the defense remained strong. Only 7 fouls were
committed by the Portagers in the entire game, and none of the fouls
resulted in any Bulldog player shooting free throws. The Portagers held
the Bulldogs to 2 points for the entire first half of play. After four
periods of play, the Bulldogs could only score a total of 12 points
leading to a 26 – 12 victory for the Portagers. |
The offense charge
was led by Emily with 9 points. Lindsay was next with 7 points and
Nicki right behind her with 6 points. Katelynn finished up the scoring
with 4 points. The team took advantage of good shooting opportunities,
but still struggled to get the ball in for the score.
The Portagers
controlled the game with defense. Danielle and Nicki controlled the
boards with 21 and 11 rebounds respectively. Lindsay and Katelynn each
pulled in 6 while Emily grabbed 3. Kelly and Kaylan also grabbed 2
rebounds each. Lindsay and Emily led the team with 2 steals each, and
Danielle and Nicki each had a take away.
The Portagers played
a good game and improved on their season making their record 3 – 0.
This group of young ladies is playing good team basketball and it shows
in every practice and game.
The JV squad will
move up for the Varsity game against Pentwater on Friday, December 18th,
at Pentwater.
Go Portagers!
