ONEKAMA — The Onekama High School football
team’s playoff hopes took a significant hit with a 26-6 homecoming loss
against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart on Friday night.
The Irish (7-1) built a 19-0 lead at halftime and the Portagers (4-4,
3-1 MSACN) were never able to recover.
Onekama senior Thomas Koon scored on an 8-yard touchdown run in the
fourth quarter for his team’s only points.
“It was a good effort by our kids,” said Onekama coach Jim Hunter. “As a
team and a coaching staff, we just made too many mistakes.” Hunter cited
numerous trips inside the Irish red zone that came up empty, to go with
penalties and turnovers. |
“We kept shooting ourselves in the
foot,” he said. “It was rough to leave those points on the field.”
The Portagers will wrap up their season against Frankfort next week. |
